MAC help with privacy et al please 👀

I clear all my history but it's not cleared. Not really. I used CC cleaner prior w/ Windows and it did seem to clear everything.

Is there any way I can get a privacy setting on a Mac? I am using Google Chrome for my browser...they know everything about me.

I see my options are Firefox or Google Chrome...if I'm understanding that right. (?)

Again need clarification. Privacy from what or who? Macs have various privacy tools as well as browsers.

There are approximately 10 browsers maybe more that are Mac friendly. Do a Google search.

Strongly suggest that you read the built in Help feature in Finder, Apple's Knowledge Base & check out their forums.

@Mz iMac Thank u... I did google it. When it arrived it had those 2 on my dock.... Safari I have to dig around for. I will read up as u advised.

Why I question, is if I put up a video link on here, it's on YT main page when I go there.

Now I go to chrome above and click 'clear browsing data'... sort of hard to explain all the links still listed, if I cleared them.

You are a genius on them... thank u again for replying!

Get CCleaner for Macs. I have it on my computers and use it regularly.

Did you buy a "used" Mac? All "new" Macs come w/1 browser ONLY-Safari. If Chrome & FF were on your comp when you purchased, you bought a "used" Mac.

This should not be. Safari alias should be on your DOCK & the Safari application inside your Applications folder.
In a previous post of yours, you were given instructions as well as photos & YT links on how to locate Safari & where it should be at all times.

Why I question, is if I put up a video link on here, it's on YT main page when I go there.
YT tracks their "linked" videos as well as the type of videos you watch. YT front page is their "recommended" videos for you to watch based on your " previous visits." If you do not want to be tracked, you will need to delete YT cookies. This is done through your browser Preferences.

"Clearing history" is deleting websites that you have visited so others using your comp will not know where u have been on the web. Not spicific links.

For what you want to do is done through your browser Preferences>Security or Advanced or Privacy. Each browser is set up differently. Sorry, I do not use Chrome or Safari.
FF>Preferences>Privacy&Security

Is there are reason you aren't just using private browsing in Safari? That's the easiest thing. Right click safari in your tast bar and then choose open private window.

Firefox and Chrome are not your only choices for a browser. Safari comes with your Mac. It's on the dock at the bottom of your screen. It's blue and looks like a compass. I use Safari and Chrome, but mainly Safari.

It better be a new Mac 27" - I went on Apple's site, built it, and bought it there but it arrived with those other's on the dock. (how would I check?)

No Safari to be found on my dock... but it is in there if I click around I see it in applications and can open it there. Why it won't stay on my dock is odd.

Chrome seems to be pushy to be my default.... Firefox is on my dock too..

On my dock I've got finder / Siri / Mail / Chrome / Photos / Contacts / Maps / itunes / iMovie / garage band / Logic Prox and last is Firefox. I realize these can be changed.

The computer guy knew I had no idea and I think he downloaded something he had with him - he kept mumbling "I'll just add this of mine".... I got the feeling he thought I was a dweeb female and to heck with her...

He also took my new numeric keyboard+mouse with him...O.O.... and left me his used older very heavy keyboard and mouse..... I tried to stop him and said "Hey those are mine and cost me money!.." He walked off with them anyway.

I emailed and spoke to him on the phone too... What a nightmare so I gave up. He was a smart a$$....

It's water under the bridge.

Can Siri hear me? Where is the mic?

I'm also using a high end headset for audio and have all audio set as high as it'll go.. but I need more. Any ideas on a more powerful audio ? (w/o adding external speakers)

I also paid that additonal year for Apple help I think. Would have to look at my invoice/email.

@cbrite If you paid for Apple help you ought to either call them or preferably make an appt. at the store for help. They have classes in the store (that are free even if you didn't pay for additional help) that are very helpful. You need to put Safari on your dock. It should be there. It's the default browser for Macs and is always on the initial set-up.

@cbrite, try this...This is what I do on my MacBook Pro to clear the cache.

Open Safari.

In the top left of your screen, click on Safari as in the photo below.

A drop down down menu appears when you click Safari. Then Click Preferences, see below,

A page opens up. Under the section titled Cookies and website data, click Manage Website data, see below

Then a new window appears. Go to the lower section and click the box that says Remove All,

Then a window appears that says ‘Are you sure.....?’ Click the box Remove Now.

Click the box Done and exit.

This is how I clear my cache. HTH. LM

If you purchased AppleCare, you paid for an extra 3 yrs of coverage not 1. All Macs come w/the FREE standard 1 yr warranty.

Check Your Service and Support Coverage

You do not know what that person put in your comp. Now is the time to take full advantage of your warranty.

Call Apple Tech Support ASAP!!!! Tell them you need step by step hand holding instructions on how to reinstall your OS like new (factory mode). They will stay on the phone w/you until your iMac is back up to par.

From what you have stated in this entire thread, makes no sense. I suspect this person added apps as well as deleted or moved them around. Or you unintentionally did. Again, NO Macs come pre-installed w/3rd party browsers. Only their own browser, Safari. However, since you "factory built your own" did you request Apple to include FF & Chrome as additional browsers?

To answer your previous question, I've owned iMacs since 1999. Back then, iMacs were plug-in & play!

@cbrite- I totally sympathize with what you are going through, but please trust me, if you get some training on Apple devices you will LOVE YOUR NEW EQUIPMENT.

If if you have any way to get to an Apple Store, GO! When you get there, explain that you are a total novice, and ask them to set you up to start from the beginning.

I am NO EXPERT, but everything useful to me I have ever learned about computers has been on MAC equipment.

The problem is NOT with your competence. It’s with understanding the differences between PCs and MAC/Apple tools and retooling the tools you need.

GOOD LUCK AND DON’T GIVE UP!

An iMac weighs 21+lbs. Too heavy & inconvenient to drag back & forth to the AS. You can w/an old school luggage carrier. Remember them? Any cart will do actually. Still inconvenient due to shape of box iMac comes in & also the shape of iMac.

If the OP in fact paid for AppleCare, a tech will come to her home. AC pays for "at home" services for all desktops.

I urge you to contact an Apple Store and sign up to take a free class. Converting from a PC to a MAC can be difficult. What applies to a PC does not always apply to a MAC. I know, I've been there. Even my PC husband who is quite "techy" gets frustrated when he deals with my MAC.

I don't know the arrangement (conversations) you had with the guy who set up your MAC, but it appears he did you no favor inaddition to lifting some of your equipment. Which BTW, I would have immediately threatened with calling the police when he refused to return my equipment. But unfortunately it is probably is long gone by now.

Take full advantage of Apple Support for your questions. Who knows what this guy may have added or rearranged on your MAC.

I did pay $169.00 for Apple Care+ for iMac.

I will call them. I just have not had time. I'm worried why the chrome and safari r both on my dock. (but not safari)

The computer guy hooked up my Mac with my Dell I think...he called it something else tho... I did not want that. So, I've got 2 screens 27" side by side...ugh.

You can think what you want but men (and women) do not listen to me say NO!!....or Do not do that !!....

I hope the Apple ppl can come.

The company is Clickaway. I paid him by check of $149.99 on Feb. 23rd. - He was to come the day before but canx at the last minute...then the day he did come, he said he was running short of time and had to hurry.
