topic Smart Tv in Electronics

Our bedroom tv seems to be dead ( 32 inch ) so I'm looking for a replacement. All I see are these Smart tv's which prior to two days ago, I had never heard of. What I'm reading is that, for the most part, they are not a good buy because they are not upgradeable with apps and the hook up is troublesome. Samsung seems to be leading the market. What's the feeling here?
