When I download books from the library on my Kindle I am asked if i want to download my book to cloud storage. So far I haven't done it; what advantages would there be to storing a book on the cloud? I don't quite understand what that means, and haven't found a good explanation about it. Would appreciate any help. TIA.

@Zhills is correct. In the case of a basic Kindle (not a Fire) used for reading, any books you “purchase” from Amazon, even actual free books or 99 cent-ers, are automatically stored in your account on Amazon and then you download it to your Kindle when you want to. When you’re finished with the book, you have the option to leave it on your Kindle or delete it. But if you delete it from your Kindle it will still be able to be downloaded again from your Amazon cloud in the future as many times as you want.

BUT - I doubt that will work with a (public) library book, because they have limited times you can have “possession” of the library ebooks. So in the case of a library book, my guess is it would let you download the book to your Cloud, but in however many weeks (10 days? 2 weeks?) it just wouldn’t be there - it would go poof.

If I understand the "cloud" completely, it is a free storage space your e-reader books.

It would work just like an extra closet. You could download books when they are free or on sale and store them on the "cloud" and download them to your device when you want to read them. That way, if you have limited storage, you could have only the book you are currently reading on the e-reader.

This is a big advantage if you have a device with limited storage or you want to keep other apps on your device and not fill up all of your space with books.

If this isn't correct, maybe someone can inform us.

If at time of purchase you instead decide to save it only to the cloud, you will get notification on your device that the book is available for download. So there's really nothing for you to decide.
