disk defrag for Mac

Is there a program that will defrag the hard drive in my iMac? Is it necessary? I've been doing some purging and have removed thousands of photos. It's close to 10,000 photos and I wonder if defraging the hard drive would help performance.

take it to the mac store they can help you with any issue or call them up.

I'm sure you've already done a Google search on this subject, but if not, there's a lot of information as to whether it's necessary to defrag a Mac.

There are programs to defrag a Mac's hard drive. Is it necessary? No. Apple's OS includes defragging that the system does automatically a bit at a time each and every day. Give it a week or two and the whole hard drive will have been defragged with you doing nothing. If you absolutely have to have it defragged today, you can buy software that will do the job for you, but the OS will do it automatically over time.

Thanks. I guess even after 5 years, it's hard to get rid of Windows thinking. I didn't defrag my Windows computers very often but, if I did a huge purge of files or programs I would. I am noticing an improvement in performance since getting rid of files. While I know it's just storage, having a program which needs to load all of the files can get bogged down.
