Trouble importing photos from SD card.....

I'm hoping someone here can help me. When I insert my SD card into my AIO computer and try to import photos, I keep getting a message saying, nothing to import". There are photos on my sd card, for sure.

I have searched all over the internet for help, watched videos, etc., but I still can't import my photos. Any ideas? Thanks!

The only way to find what is causing a problem is by the process of elimination. The slot or the drivers could have gone bad. The card could have a corrupted photo that doesn't allow the card to work properly. Get into the device manager, find the card reader, uninstall it, restart the computer and let the computer reinstall the dirvers. The easiest way to get into the device manager is to do a search for it. Try reading the SD card again. If that doesn't work, try reading the SD card in a different computer or different card reader.

Thanks so much, glb613! I found my disk manager, but I'm not finding the card reader. Could it be under another name such as "SD host adapters"?

I'm not sure. You can try uninstalling it and rebooting. Your computer will reinstall all hardware you uninstall when you reboot/restart. I'd try it.

Is there anything else in the device manager you think might be your card reader? If so, uninstall and reboot. The next step, try a different card reader or connnect your camera directly to your computer.

I'm not super tech savvy so I'm not sure what you are talking about, but I know without a doubt there are pictures on my SD card. They are from a recent trip we took. What is really strange is, I'm nearly positive I was able to import them a couple of weeks ago, but now they are no longer on my computer, and now when I try to import them, I keep getting the "nothing to import" message.

Connect your camera to the computer istead of using the card reader.

Are you trying to import the same photos you imported a couple weeks ago? If so, they may have been removed from the card.

Did you delete the photos from your computer, or are you just unable to locate them?

What program did you use to import? Does it have a setting that lets you choose between removing or leaving the photos on the card when importing?

File Explorer lets you navigate to different locations on your computer, including an SD card. It can be opened from folder icon on the taskbar.

Yes, I am trying to import the same photos. I haven't put the sd card back in the camera to see if they have been removed, but I will do that.

If I deleted the photos from my computer, I didn't intend to. I'm thinking they're just not there.

When I insert my sd card, my other pictures (from my phone) pop up, and I click on "import" in the upper right corner. A box appears and searches for just a couple of seconds, but then I get the message there is nothing to import.

I just tried going to my file explorer, as you suggested, and I see "Nikon" listed twice, but when I try to open those two files, it says they are empty.

And by putting the card back in the camera you can be sure the photos are really there. Hint: Check the camera first to be sure the photos you want aren't on any internal memory the camera has. It's not common these days for cameras to have their own internal memory, but some do (or did in the not too distant past.) If the photos are on the camera's internal memory then they're not on the card and will ahve to be moved from the camera to the computer.

Thanks, everyone, for your helpful suggestions. I have to find my camera (as hubby is constantly moving things where I can't find them), and I will check the sd card in my camera.

One thing I think I've determined is that this particular SD card may be the problem, because I found another SD card, and when I insert it into my computer, the pictures do come up, although I have previously imported them.

If the card has become corrupted, the card reader won't be able to see any photos. It happened to a friend of mine. I downloaded a program called "recuva", installed it on my computer and was able to transfer all but 2 of the photos on her SD card.

PLEASE tell me I didn't lose them!!! I have searched every file I can find on my computer, including anything that says "Nikon", and I can't find my photos anywhere. I am frustrated and disappointed.

Even if they have been deleted off the card, you can still retrieve the photos with the right program. As I posted, there is a program called Recuva and it's free for the download. Install it on your computer, connect the SD card, open the program and search for files on the card. If they are found, transfer them to your computer's hard drive.

Recuva

Yes. When you delete a photo off the card it doesn't really go anywhere until new data overwrites it. Deleting a photo simply tells the card it can use that space for a future photo/slice of data, but the photo is still there, just the directory saying it's there has been altered. A program like Recuva will actually look past the directory to the data on the card itself and find your photos. As long as you haven't used the card for anything else, the photos should still be on it and able to be recovered.

At the risk of sounding like a complete idot (which I probably already do, but I'm desperate to find my photos), I just installed Recuva, and now I cannot find it anywhere to use it.

I thought maybe I hadn't completed downloaded it so I tried downloading it again, and I get an alert telling me it's already installed.

Can someone please tell me where my Recuva software is and how to use it, step by step? Please? Thanks!!!

You should be able to find it in programs or apps. I'm going to give instructions from memory since I no longer have a Windows computer. Make sure the memory card or camera (turned on) is connected to the computer first. Open Recuva, select recover files, select either the camera or SD card from the list and the program should start looking for any files. After it finds the files you need to drag and drop or select where to transfer the files. I hope someone with this program installed posts with any corrections if needed to my instructions.

When I had a Windows compute (I still do this on my iMac) I create folders for storing my files. I name the folder for what's in it like "Vacation Photos 2017". If you choose the folder My Pictures or what ever it's now called, they may not stay in a group. Hope this helps.
