firefox just notified me.....

that they will not support Vist anymore & I need to go to windows 7, 8, or 10. I want an easy to understand & maneuver one. What do ya'all recommend? thx.

Windows 7 is the closest to what you're used to, but since it will also be discontinued soon, you might as well bite the bullet & move up to Windows 10.

While you'll have the luxury of avoiding the previous "growing pains" we all endured with Windows 8, there are a few changes that might be a little tricky for you.

The start button is back & you won't have to use apps like on Windows 8, so the transition to Windows 10 will be a little bit easier for you.

I also recommend installing Windows 10 because it has built in security (if you're not already using virus & malware scanners) & you will continue to get the newest updates as they become available.

Good-luck & if all else fails, you can probably go to a local Best Buy or other computer store, maybe even a local high school etc. to take a course on Windows 10!

No, don't try to install Win10 on a computer that old! That is a bad idea.

As others have said, you probably need to update to a newer computer. I don't like Win10 much for several reasons, but it's better than having no safety with an OS that is as old as yours.

I'm not a fan of Firefox but maybe other browsers are still supported? NOt sure, as I don't have an operating computer old enough to have Vista. I use Chrome and IE on all of my computers.

Thank you to all who responded, Iam a bit wiser because of your replies. I don't want to buy a new computer but if I have to, then I'll have to.

Yeah, unfortunately, technology leaves us behind at some point and we have to get caught up. When Vista falls off from MS supporting the OS with security updates you really will need to replace.

PS: We have our own Mrs Kravitz on our little street. He lives two houses up from our house. Boy, if you ever want to know what's going on with anybody (I'm not that nosy but my husband is. hehe) he can tell you.

But he also watches over us and that is a good thing for sure!

It will only get harder to adjust the longer you wait. Not to mention the security risk your computer is exposing you to each time you use it. Honestly, I can't imagine still using a Vista computer. It was one of the worse operating systems Microsoft made. It's slow, buggy and I had nothing but problems with it. I lasted about a year and sold the computer.

How are you planning to upgrade to keep Firefox? I personally would not install any of them on a computer built for Vista. Many things inside your computer are pretty old if your computer came with Vista. You would be better off upgrading to a new computer, in my opinion.

I never had Vista. For me it was Win98 and then to WinXP. From there I went to Windows 7. I still have Win7 and unless I think we need an upgrade, I plan on staying with it.

The transition from the ones I mentioned were not that hard for me, or my wife.

The good news with Windows 10 is once you learn it, you should be set for life. Microsoft says it's the last operating system they'll ever make and all new upgrades will be within the Windows 10 ecosystem. And truthfully, from Windows 95 on the differences between operating systems haven't been all that great. Windows 95 was Microsoft's first "modern" OS and everything they've done since then has been adding onto that basic blueprint.

I did not want to have the nightmare of installing windows10 to my 8.1 I just brought a new computer. I have no trouble now at all. And I like the voice activated search, or I use Microsoft edge.

Thanks for posting this... makes it worth buying a computer with windows 10 now.

I have no issues either.. but, I read some of the other threads about people trying to install it on there older computers and it sounded like a nightmare.
