Microsoft Office Word

My Microsoft Office expired and of course I can't use it anymore. I am not going to buy it again as I don't use Excel or Powerpoint. Does anyone know of a word document that is free or inexpensive? I don't mind paying for something but think it's ridiculous to pay for stuff I won't use. All I basically use it for is to copy and paste recipes and to occasionally write letters, etc. TIA

MS Office is so standard, I would recommend renewing it - even if u don't use ppt or excel.

I use Google docs for lots of things, and it's so easy to share and edit with other people, but haven't used in place of Word, but I think it would be a good replacement.

@sabra Microsoft Word Pad came free on my laptop. It is similar to MS Word and can be found under Windows Accessories in Windows 10.

@sabra, when i used a PC daily i used Google Docs for all my personal stuff and Microsoft Office just for business. I always prefered the Google Doc.
Isn't Google docs called Google Drive now?

I use OpenOffice on my Windows 10 laptop. It's free. Nearly as good as MS Word.

I think there is another freebie - Libre Office, or something like that.

Open Office and Libre Office are free for he download. Don't use Works if it's on your Windows computer. It's not compatible with anything. I also wouldn't use Word Pad but, that's me.

I have a Mac and use Pages. It was free on my MacBook Pro but, I had to buy it on my iMac. While compatible with Word, it doesn't always have the fonts.

Yes Google Drive now

has all the doc/sheets and everything else under that "umbrella" but us "oldschoolers" call it google docs

I really like the sharing aspect of it which is super easy,

my daughter and I set up a spreadsheet of a visit list stuff to do etc, and we can add edit things in the sheet and the other person will see instantly

I have used Microsoft Office for 20 plus years. I have not found anything better to work with emails than Outlook.

I have used a Google Drive and Docs for a few years since buying a smartphone.

The easiest option is Microsoft Word Online. It's a free online version of Word that works pretty well. I played around with it a bit when it was first announced (back in 2014) and I just took a look and it's still there. It's lacking a few features of the full Word, but it's pretty good. If you've got Internet access when you need to create a document, it's a good, free alternative that's very similar to what you're already using. Here's a link to it if you're interested.

WPS Office is a free suite of programs that will work on Linux, Android and Windows. I first used it on my Android tablets and phones and then discovered it works equally well on Windows and is 100% compatible with MS Office so far. It seems a bit easier to use than Open Office but that's probably just because I'm used to it.

Another choice of good free programs!

I suggest you look into Apache Open Office. It is from a reputable company, been around for quite a while, and the format is almost identical to MS Office. Short learning curve. I use it on Win 10 with no problems. since it is free you can download it, tryit, and if you don't like it simply uninstall it. No harm, no foul

You must not be aware Microsoft Office has become a subsciption service with a yearly renewal. You can still buy it and is what I would do if I needed it for business or personal use.

This older product is going to expire in October 2017. This version will no longer get security updates from Microsoft.
