I'm hoping someone can advise me. I have Kaspersky Anti Virus software on my computer. I noticed about a month ago I got this Kaspersky Secure Connection icon on my computer. I believe this has slowed down my computer (it's old so now it's even slower) and many times I get a screen telling me there is no internet connection when there is. Eventually the website does come up. My question is what is this and do I really need it? Can I uninstall it without uninstalling my virus software? I'm not tech savvy so I would appreciate any help.

Hi Jordan,so glad you posted that question.Yesterday I went crazy.I had to pay my elderly mom's housekeeper back in Italy.My laptop kept saying I had no wi-fi connection, but other laptops and tablets were fine.

I only know the basics of using computers and one daughter was busy and the other was tired.So I just used another laptop.Then today my husbad fixed my computer,but it didn't last more than 10 minutes.

Then the Kapersky window popped up requesting my permission for updates.It said that if I didn't do that I wouldn't have wi-fi.

After the update everything worked perfectly.I feel I was kind of forced to allow the update.

Hope this will help you solve your problem.

If you can't get wifi put the button back the way it was. Or call Kaspersky Support to see what they say if you are unsure what to do. Tell them you do not plan to subscribe after trial is over because it slows your computer down too much. See what they say.

Here's an article.....#2 probably doesnt apply if you have a subscription...already

http://techdows.com/2016/07/uninstall-kaspersky-secure-connection.html

When you install Kaspersky 2017 along with it, the newly added Secure Connection will also be installed on your computer. Kaspersky Secure Connection is available with limited mode to users, and it offers only 200 MB of free traffic per day, when that limit exceeds a notification will be shown to wait for few more hours for you to avail the service.

If you want to use KSC without limitations then you need to purchase a license for that by visiting Kaspersky Online Store, if you think this much of hassle you can remove Secure Connection, here is how that can be done.

Three reasons to remove Kaspersky Secure Connection

You want to use Kaspersky, but not interested in KSC because it works in limited mode.

You’re using the trial version, after completing the evaluation period, you either need to purchase a license for Kasperksy or uninstall Kaspersky, but Secure Connection will be left behind without removal when you uninstall it. Then it isn’t much of use, you need to delete it anyway then.

Another scenario is while keeping Kaspersky you may want to use another VPN.

A VPN connection is useful also when travelling, because many people connect to untrusted public WiFi, so that they keep in touch with their friends and family. According to a study, each fifth user was a victim of cyber criminals when traveling. This is not surprising, considering that one in five tourists don’t take any security precautions when connecting to the internet while traveling. The Secure Connection module that offers the VPN connection service inside Kaspersky Internet Security for Windows, becomes a welcome security tool when connecting to public wireless networks. Unfortunately, this module is available only in Kaspersky’s security products for Windows and not for Android. Since VPN integration is only beginning, we expect other security vendors to follow Kaspersky’s example and integrate this feature into their security products for all platforms. It remains to be seen if this feature will be popular with Kaspersky users and whether other security vendors will rush to adopt it into their products.

I have had Kaspersky Internet Security or its equivalent by them for several years and am happy with the general protection. However, I haven't had good experiences with their add-ons like Safe Money, and AFAIC, Secure Connection falls into the same category, so I don't even want to try it. It's not installed, even though Kaspersky nags me quietly about it. I've also disabled Safe Money.

I have Kaspersky running all the time, and occasionally do a complete scan, and haven't yet turned up any bugs. It usually informs me on the fly of attempts on my ports, which it rebuffs. So based just on my experience, I'd say you'd be okay if you turned it off.

I have Kaspersky on my computer and it works ok. I have Kaspersky total security, When I go to certain websites that need protection it comes up and asks if I want to use it. I always do because it is personal info. If it were me, I would call technical support and they will help you. I find them to be very customer friendly. I would not delete any virus until I checked it out. If you leave your computer without a virus protection, you could be in trouble. This is just my opinion.

@noodleann wrote:

@noodleann

I agree, I have really liked Kaspersky Security, I found McAfee too intrusive, and had an issue with a glitch with Norton's download that really messed up a computer I had---not even Tech's could fix it.

Kaspersky was really good in preventing me from going to my church website that had been hacked and a virus had also been downloaded....it came up ACCESS DENIED!!! and saved me a headache, while friends that used other virus protection didnt get the message.

Not overly fond of the Kaspersky's Secure Connection add-on (I have my own mobile wifi with security so dont use public wifis), and not overly fond of Safe Money either......but the rest is great and use the scanning tools and other features...
