7" Tablet Suggestions

I'm lookin for a 7" tablet with speech to text capabilities to especially text and retrieve/send emails, front and rear camera. The few I've found either do not have the mic icon on keyboard or only have front camera. Wonder if there is a smallish tablet with what I am looking for.

Would you consider an 8" tablet, and if so, what is your pricepoint? I have cheap tablets all the way up to the newest iPad mini 4, which is 8 inches. It is...hands down...the best of all my tablets. Blazing fast, amazing display, excellent speech to text capabilities...the cream of the crop. Best Buy often has it on sale for $299. My least favorite tablet is the cheapo $50 Amazon Fire...painfully slow, muted colors, no speech to text...I actually pretty well hate it. lol

I agree about the Amazon fire! Hate it! 299.00 is a bit too steep for me. Where do you offer your products?

Sometimes Amazon sells the Samsung Galaxy S2 8" for $299. I found one on sale in July 2016. This tablet is on par with an iPad mini.

Think I will go to BestBuy to look at them in person and then do an internet search for the model that meets my needs. So hard to do it all online.

Oh don't say u hate it. I just ordered 2 fires from the other place to try out the alexa in it. It's built right in it. Oh noooo and you hate it. It's a newer version. Too late. Qq

@Yesyesyes568, everyone has his/her own opinion, and just because I dislike the Amazon Fire 7" tablet when compared to every other tablet I own...including the cheap LePan I bought last year from the Q and really like...lol...you may just think the Amazon Fire is great.

That being said, I don't know of one Android tablet that doesn't have text to speech using Google, which is amazing. I honestly think it is way better than Alexa (my Fire tablet updated recently with Alexa) or Apple's Siri. And you can get an Android tablet reasonably inexpensive.

I will tell you why I dislike the 7-inch Fire tablet. This is just my opinion.
Amazon has its own app store called Amazon Underground. Their store does not have all the apps that Apple or Google Play has...for example Kohl's and a local news channel that I enjoy, but I can use the browser (Silk) to go the websites. The apps also don't update frequently, and there is no way to update them unless Amazon is offering the update.

I like the Amazon Fire for a reader (the size is great for that purpose), and that is about it. There is no easy way to turn wi-fi off and on unless you use the airplane mode. I actually downloaded an app that I can use to quickly turn wi-fi on and off. I find the tablet to be PAINFULLY slow. I also find the color to be muted and dull, and there is no way to change the color contrast or bump it up. Another thing that I don't like is that it doesn't have voice recognition. So if you're used to speaking a search term or dictating a Facebook private message or email or anything for that matter, you are out of luck. I knew that when I bought it but did not realize how much I use voice recognition.

I finally sideloaded Google Play to get a bit more functionality out of it, but I have had to customize this tablet so much, that I most likely will not buy another Fire tablet.

To summarize, if you are just wanting a cheap tablet to use as a reader and occasional internet use, the Amazon Fire will work albeit slowly and not with the best display. Perhaps more expensive Amazon tablets are better, but I won't be purchasing any more.

As with anything, it is subjective. I, personally, hated the Fire! Actually bought it and returned it from QVC. I didn't realize I was buying the same tablet when it was pre offered from the other channel. I know, haste makes waste; I didn't read the details. Anyway, it is my opinion that if you want a tablet to play games and read books, this may suffice. That is not what I want a smallish (7-8") to slip into my bag to entertain myself while in a waiting room reading my emails, texting, fooling around on facebook and maybe playing candy crush and crossword puzzles. I HAVE TO have speech to text option, rear facing camera, SD slot, wifi capability (I think that is on all now). I will be doing some foot work and looking at options hands on before I purchase.

There is a cute Polaroid 7" tablet on sale in Walgreens for $49.99.

Latest version of Android (I think it is Marshmallow?).

Anyway, it is cute. It is Google, so the talk to text option would be there. I did not look for a camera, but I have a 10" Polaroid and it has front and back camera's.

Tablets are coming so far down in price, if you are just using it for surfing and email etc, it is easy to get one under $100. (excluding Aplle products, which not everyone can afford).

You might want to try a search beginning with the word "Compare" followed by two or three names of tablets. Searches like this are sometimes very helpful to me.

I went to BestBuy today. The ony 7" tablet they had was the Samsung Galaxy Tab A. It was everything I wanted except it only had 8GB of memory. I would like more; at leasst 16 with ability to expand with SD slot. Still searching. I will check out Acer but I don't think they make a 7". 7" is perfect for taking on the go. Don't know why more brands don't make more in this size.

I have the nook branded 7" and its pretty good. I do not know if it has your features for I only use mine for reading. I have an asus zenpad 8 inch and its amazing. Top of the line screen and performance only $250 or 10 a month on verizon
