I picked up a virus from amazon.

I've picked up many things from shopping on amazon but never a virus! I don't know when or where this came from but it showed up on my virus scan today as coming from amazon dot com. Anyone else seen this before?

I just got my AMEX card hacked. I'm sure popular shooping sites are prime targets for lots of malicious activity.

Oh no, a card hack...that's terrible. I had that happen to me with a scanner that was illegally installed on a cash register at a local store. Everything is okay now but it was a disturbing event to say the least.

There was a story on the news about fake Amazon and Ups sites. They are sending out emails that look identical to the real sites and they get you to open it by referrencing a "a delay in your order". When you open it, the hackers can get into your computer and gain access to your credit card numbers. The advice was that if you get such an email, don't click on any links. Delete the email and then go to the actual Amazon or Ups site to see if it was a legitimate email. Although, I don't think Amazon would ever send such an email. If an order is delayed, the information would be in tracking.

I never click on links offered in my emails. I go directly to the site on my browser and never through an email link.

I'm thinking that this "virus" I picked up might be some sort of weird shopping tracking bit and not a true virus. Who knows but this concerns me because it was detected by my scanning software which provides protection from malicious activities.

I am using PCMatic....for about a year now. No problems with it whatsoever, except for one time their app wouldn't open and it was immediately fixed by their customer service with no interruption.

I'm on my Win10 laptop this morning and as soon as I came to THIS website it said there was some kind of malware here.

I don't know if the a/v on this one is more sensitive or it's just some of the emoticons people use here that have malware, or what, but it kept warning me over and over until I stopped the warnings.

Never had a problem from Amazon. Sounds, uh, odd.

Furthermore, if people have their computers properly protected there shouldn't be any catching of viruses from a normal website.

The virus I got was eliminated from my puter automatically. My virus scan shows what it finds and where it came from, in this case amazon. As far as I know my av software is working fine. This was the first from amazon for me.

Oh, awesome! I'm so glad that it was caught. I thought your computer actually got a virus. Whew! I wonder what it was.

The problem with any site where there are so many people visiting is that people can plant stuff. Just like some of the emoticon programs some people use here. They have spyware and can have viruses or other malware attached but it doesn't matter how many times you tell people, they still do it.

For those of us who have proper protection, we won't actually catch anything, but others are just skrewed.

The software will either delete the malware or quarantine it for later deletion. I would let Amazon know about this, and give the name of the malware.

This program will just take your money. Please go online and look for reviews. If Amazon is not selling it something is wrong.

THERE is no such thing as a LIFETIME License on a utility program. How long has this company been in business?

I recall reading about this particular antivirus program, @Nuttmeg.

I had forgotten what it was that stood out in my mind about it, and then "whitelisting" came to mind.

It relies on "whitelisting" programs, as opposed to "blacklisting," which is the way that other antivirus programs go for detecting malware.

Whitelisting allows certain programs in, and blacklisting keeps certain programs out.

Personally, if it were me, I would look at using another antivirus program.

One can do a search here on the forum in the search bar at the top of the page, and do a search in the community pages to look for past posts on antivirus programs to get some ideas of what members already like and use.
