Office Home and Student 2016

Just purchased my new computer and wonder if anyone can give me advice on whether to do the one time buy or just pay to use it per year. I really only need Word and use that a lot but just buying that is almost as much as buying the entire thing. Wondering if I would get the updates on the one I buy in the future.

Depending on how long you use it, the yearly subscription can be more expensive. If it was me, I'd buy a copy. There are free office suites you can download. Libre Office and Open Office are the two I've used.

After seeing the price for using it for the year I think the price to buy it is a lot better. I will check out the two sites you sent. I can still use my old computer for word if I have to. I hope that Windows 10 is easier than some have posted online. Thanks.

Some people complain about change no matter what it is. I can't say how Windows 10 is because I haven't used it. I'd suggest you keep an open mind and learn what's new.

Yes as the others have said, there are free downloads of equivalents to Office. You can also buy the Microsoft Office version for a one-time charge.

My ABSOLUTE LAST alternative would be the yearly subscription.

I have the paid copy of Office 365. I like it because it updates automatically. I had a problem with the software and was able to remove it from my computer and reinstall it. I subscribed to the 2013 version and when 2016 can out I received an upgrade. I am a big fan of Outlook and the Home and Office Student Edition does not have Outlook.

Each of us has to decide what works . I use other free programs and buy Office 365.
