Mouse trouble

In the last few days my mouse has been acting up. It won't click and an image comes up saying "disconnected" and I can't click on anything - freezes up.

Then a few minutes later the image shows "connection".

I have a desktop iMac and have never heard about mouse issues. I replaced the batteries and it has not made any difference.

Help! What's going on?

Is is an attached mouse or a wireless one, if it is the latter, it might need batteries

Is your mouse corded or wireless? If corded, I'd check the spot where it plugs into the computer. The connection may be loose or falling out.

Yes, as stated, I replaced the batteries 2 days ago. Wireless.

I've always had better luck with corded mice. The wireless kind are nice when they work but maddening when they don't. Plus, they require a steady diet of batteries.

Read Apple's Knowledge Base Article https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204621

If nothing works from the Article, post on Apple's Bluetooth Mouse forum.

If you are still under warranty and/or have Apple Care, call them.

My sil has had nothing but trouble with wireless mice on his iMac desktop. They get jumpy and inaccurate, then connect and disconnect all the time.

I recently bought a new small wireless logitec mouse and it connected up perfectly and worked well for me. I didn't leave it, and don't know if it would eventually mess up like all the others.

I love my Logitech wireless mouse. But I use a Toshiba, not Apple product.

Re-set your wireless connection, I don't know how to explain it. Like re-settting a blue-tooth connection. Un-do everything then set it all up again like you did when it was new. Hope it helps.

ETA then reboot......there's always the "reboot"

I go through a few setting steps with all my wired mice. FIrst I make sure it is very clean and moves easily. I then open the options setting for my mouse, and make some changes. If that does not work?

Not many computer components cheaper to buy new, so I buy a new one.

Yep. Eats tooooo many batteries. I went back to the Mac wired mouse.

Another problem that occures sometimes is that the "button" on top gets stuck from dirt and use. Push down and rotate around fast.

Hi @hckynut,

I was going to recommend that pommom buy a new mouse, when she got another one from her daughter.

I agree with you.

If you try different things to try and solve the problem and your solutions still don't work, sometimes it's just easier to buy a new mouse. They are relatively inexpensive these days.

I think that I'm due for a new wireless mouse for myself, too.
