I googled this for you:

If your Chromebook is crashing or freezing:

Turn off your Chromebook, then turn it back on.

Close all your apps and browser windows.

If a specific tab in your browser causes your Chromebook to crash or freeze, hard refresh the page: Ctrl + Shift + R.

If you've installed any new apps or extensions recently, uninstall them.

Reset your Chromebook.

Recover your Chromebook.

https://support.google.com/chromebook/answer/6309225

I hope this helps!

I have a non touch screen chromebook. Lately it will just freeze in the middle of doing something ( the arrow that is my curser just won't move) - then the only way to bring it back to normal is to turn it off and then restart - and whatever I was doing is gone. I tried clearing cookies, erasing tabs - I don't know what to do to make it stop doing this. It has just begun doing this in the past few days. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi @151949,

I also use a Chromebook.

A simple thing that you can try doing first if your cursor is freezing is just try changing out the battery in your mouse if you are using a wireless mouse instead of the touchpad on your Chromebook. It could be something like that, where your battery needs changing out for your mouse.

Another thing to think about is if you keep any tabs open when you're using your Chromebook, meaning that you have more than one tab open at one time--multiple tabs/windows open at one time?

If you do, try closing them one at a time, and see if that helps. Think about if you visited a new/different website lately, when this started happening.

You may find that there is a particular website that is causing a problem for you, and once you close that particular tab, your Chromebook will work better.

Another thing to think about is if you think that you might have too many tabs or windows open.

I notice that my Chromebook works better when I have less tabs/windows open.

Personally, I like to go back and forth between different websites, but I don't always think that it's advantageous to my Chromebook to do this, so I'll start bookmarking sites instead so that I can always refer to them later.

Otherwise, you can try resetting your Chromebook if you find that these other options aren't working for you.

I do that when mine starts freezing.

You can reset it by going into your Advanced Settings section underneath Settings.

You may already know this but your Settings section can be found by going all of the way to the right of your screen.

You can find it by selecting the little dotted three dotted bar at the end of your screen, up at the top right-hand corner of the screen, and clicking on it, and then scrolling all of the way down to the bottom of the menu, and then choosing Settings.

To find Advanced Settings, scroll all of the way down to the bottom in your Settings section.

Resetting your Chromebook will disable any extensions that you have enabled, and will change your search engine back to Google if you have it set to a different one like Bing or Yahoo, etc., so you will have to change it back from Google if you use another search engine.

You will also have to enable any extensions that it disabled, too, like if you are using a calendar or an Ad Blocker, for example.

I have also done what is called a "Power Wash" with my Chromebook too, where I have taken it back to factory default settings. That totally cleans it out.

It's just like setting it up when you first take it out of the box.

I have done this when I have accidentally clicked on some adware/malware.

Chromebooks have antivirus protection built in to them automatically, but they can still pick up adware-malware.

I accidentally picked up some kind of adware redirect malware the other day where when I opened a new tab/window, I would get a new advertisement window instead of what I should have been getting.

So, I power washed it and that took care of it.

That choice can also be found in the same section where the reset option is, too.

If you need any more help, let us know.

Does your computer lock-up on one website in particular? Or doesn't it matter? Just wondering if it's a site problem rather than a computer problem.

It seems to be happening more with Facebook than anywhere else - and , of course, with the election there is an awful lot of junk on FB right now.

I already did close all the tabs and remove all my browsing history. I'm going to go through my pocket where I keep recipes I find online and clean that out. Also my friend as been visiting Spain and she has sent me a ton of pictures and they may be too much space being used so I'll transfer them to our desktop and take them off this computer.

I think we tend to think our computers are little workhorses and don't ever need cared for, and , of course , they do.

Well, I figured it out. It was a sight called Occupy Democrats that put political ads on FB. Every time you open one it freezes up the computer a few min later. Nice eh? So anyway -eliminated them from my newsfeed so I am hoping I won't have anymore issues. At least this made me spend some time today to clean up my computer. I shouldn't open political junk anyway - makes my blood boil, and raises my BP.
