Another Apple problem

Today has been the day for things to go wrong. I heard a crack and found the stand to my iMac has failed. I looked it up and found 42 pages of complaints from people who have the same problem. Many were claiming it has to be a design problem since no one was moving or lifting the computer when the hinge failed. I called Apple and my extended warranty no longer covers my computer so, I have to pay the $250 to repair it. Not to mention carry it and out the shop. We do have a certified repair company in town which is good since the closest Apple store is 2+ hours away.

After I left the repair shop, I had problems starting my car and to make a long story short, my car is in the shop. Dang, this has been a bad day me and my "stuff".

You can have the iMac stand repaired FOR FREE!!!

Call Apple Customer Relations - 1-800-275-2273. Ask politely & firmly that you want to be transferred to Customer Relations. Tell them exactly what you stated in your post. See what they can do for you!

Also, ask about the following:

As a desktop (iMac) owner, you may qualify for "on site" service instead of having to lug your iMac to the repair shop.

GOOD LUCK!

I'm so sorry to hear that, @glb613. Days like that are always frustrating and I think they're even more so when it's something like you described with the Apple stand failing.

I hope you get everything up and running again soon.

I will call this morning. It has to be a design flaw since it just broke while sitting on my desk. I didn't read the entire 42 pages of complaints but, the story was exactly the same. The owner hears a loud crack then the hinge failed to hold the screen in the proper position. I'll let you know what happens. Thanks.

Yippee! I called Apple care, spoke to customer relations and it is going to be repaired free of charge. Thank you Mz iMac for your advise.

I got to the repair shop and Apple tried to renege. I spoke to several people and wouldn't take no for an answer. I told them there has to be a design flaw or faulty part for a device to have a spontaneous break. I found out there are multiple articles about the hinge breaking so it IS a known defect with 27" iMacs. After talking to multiple people once again, it is being fixed free of charge. It will take up to 5 days for the part to be shipped and repaired. Good thing I have more than one computer.

I remember when I bought a second computer. People thought I was nuts. I had a Dell that was a lemon and being fixed more than I used it. I couldn't be without a computer so I got a cheap E-machine. This is before notebook computers and tablets were common or affordable so I had to buy a new desk as well. I eventually gave the E-machine to my Dad but from that time until now, I've never had only one computer.
