I have had two Toshiba laptops that have been the best laptops I have ever owned. The first one I had 4 years and passed onto my son and it was still working fine for several years after that. My newest one I purchased is a Toshiba Satellite P755D with a backlit keyboard and I have had it for over 4 years and plan on keeping it.I still have Windows 7 on it. It is built so sturdy and not the cheaper plastics that they now make laptops with. It has never failed me. I do make sure all my software and anti-virus is up-to-date. Windows updates are set for me to download if I want or need them. The stickers are still on it as it always feels new to me.

I would never not open and set-up an electronic item when I purchased it. I have to be sure it runs properly and then put it up if needed. The only thing this year I did was blow out any dust as my laptop fan as it was running hot and long. That did the trick. I also keep my laptop on a open gridded rack that I used to cool cookies on. It works perfect to let the air circulate underneath it and it was free. Every electronic product bought will have a few bad ones. Just not any of my Toshiba products.

Why would you buy a computer and wait a year to even make sure it works?

Sorry, but this one is on you.

Maybe you should try 'Toshiba'. Methinks that maybe 'Toshibo' is a generic copy.

I also agree with IG.

Sorry that happened, but also too bad you didn't open it for so very long. I don't trust any elecgtronic company that much!

I don't have a Toshiba computer, but I know people who do and theirs are working fine. And I've had a Toshiba TV for well over 10 years now - excellent machine. So based on my personal experience, I wouldn't necessarily take your advice.

We've had our Toshiba 17-inch laptop for about 3 years. It works beautifully. I can't complain about it at all. We bought it with Win 8 and I upgraded it to 8.1. A few months ago, I upgraded it to 10.

We got rid of DH's old Dell desktop that was running Vista. We were going to buy a new desktop, but then he decided to use the Toshiba laptop full time. He's very pleased with it and hasn't had any trouble with it at all. I bought it at Best Buy.

My GF also has a Toshiba 15-inch laptop. She freely admits that any problems she's had so far with her laptop has been due to "owner's lack of knowledge". She also bought hers at Best Buy. She's happy with it.

DH's union local's main computer is a Toshiba 15-inch laptop. I'm the one who does the maintenance on the thing: anti-virus/internet updates, Windows updates, etc. I make sure it goes through its scans and such. It's a nice little machine to work with.

We cannot complain about Toshiba.

I agree with the OP I surely won't purchase a Toshiba ever again. Noting but junk. I have a HP laptop that I've had for years and still going strong. So strong I've worn off the print of the keys on the keypad. There's an upcoming fabulous deal on another HP with 12 gigs of ram 1 TD of memory on Sunday along with a free printer. It's a steal of a price. Definately going to purchase this tsv.

While there is some debated the original post is real or a troll, every computer company has had a bad model or a lemon. As I write this post my iMac is in the shop for a design flaw/broken hinge. I had a Dell desktop back in the late 90s that was the worse computer. I finally demanded a replacement, got a refurbished unit, was not happy it wasn't new but it turned out to be one of the best computers I've owned.

While I do read reviews and opinions here, I wouldn't reject entire company because one person had a lemon. Some designs are poor, like notebook computers with vents on the bottom, or companies get a bad batch of hardware making a computer not work well. Most computers are built well and will last years if the owners take care of them.

The "trick" to buying a computer is to look at the specs, not the colors, and see if the hardware installed meets your needs. Look at the computer and especially where the vents are. Heat build up will shorten the life of a computer faster than anything else. If you have a Windows machine, be dilligent in performing updates and running scans. I've cleaned people's computers that were so loaded with viruses and malware, they wouldn't run. For everyone who hates a certain brand there are people who love it.

I have a Toshiba computer that is about six years old and it is still going strong ... They make very good Labtops. I also would not wait a year to open the box and set it up.
