I use Virgin Mobile. I have had it for years and I love the service. I love the fact that when I call directory assistance, I get a real person, and not a robot, and they connect me for free. My husband does not have this with Boost. Boost is also another prepaid phone plan. He pays $40 per month. I have had mine so long that I pay $20 every 90 days.

I brought my own phone to Verizon, though you can also buy one, and use their PAYG service. $50/mo. For 2GB of data.

I have a regular wireless plan with Verizon. I pay $60 a month for 2 GB of service with a two year contract. I got a discount buying the phone.

AT&T also has quality service.

My wife has a Sprint plan that is: unlimited talk/unlimited texts, and, I think, 1gb of data. She pays $35+ tax=$37.50 per month.

She has yet to use even 400mb of data because she seldom is in a spot where wifi is not available.

I have a plan with AT&T that they call a Go Phone plan. I have an iPhone 5s for $40 a month. It would be $45 a month if they didn't automatically deduct it from my account each month. It's a great phone, and I think it's a nice plan. You can do a Google search for AT&T Go Phone and read about it. They have a lot of different plans and different phones depending on how much you'll use it.

I use Straight Talk unlimited talk/text/data plan and have for a few years. No complaints. I use an unlocked iPhone (purchased from Apple) with it.

I tried a few other pre-paid plans before trying ST. If the others had had good service I would not have switched.

I'm confused - you all are making monthly payments for a phone service that is a "PREPAID"? I really don't understand how that works. I thought the point of using a prepaid service was to not have to make a monthly payment.

My Tracfone was $98 - I got a year of service with 1200min of talk and text and 1200mb of data. I pay nothing monthly. Nothing in addition to the original $98 unless I use up all my time and need to buy more. However I find what comes with the phone to be quite adequate.

My AT&T Go Phone isn't really prepaid. It's a phone without a contract.

@151949 You were reading my mind. I was thinking, "Wasn't the OP asking about pre-paid phones?" If there's a monthly billing, then the phone is not pre-paid! I also have one of those phones like yours, where you buy as many minutes as you want whenever you want........that's pre-paid.

Prior to switching to Tracfone, I had T-Mobile prepaid. I paid about $100 per year, and minutes lasted 1 year. There was no text or data included in that. I got rid of it because the coverage was spotty. I really like my Tracfone and have had good customer service with them as well.

Verizon has a plan .....

"Manage your account fast and easily

You can renew your prepaid phone plan for another 30 days by paying the monthly plan fee prior to your monthly renewal date."

You can change from WiFi only to 4G on a monthly basis. You "pre-pay" for 4G for only a month.

My wife's Sprint Plan is pre-paid. You pay a month in advance/no contract.In my view that is a pre-paid plan. The same as a pre-paid TracFone? No, but it is pre-paid monthly. If you want to increase the "GB" of data, Sprint has 2 higher priced monthly/pre-paid plans.

Guess it is how one chooses to interpret "pre-paid" I guess. I know there is no multi-year contract to which one is stuck.

No. I purchased my iPhone from Apple. Paid all at once. I buy coverage for it once a month. I just pick up a $45 card (unlimited calls/text/data) at WalMart. No contract, no bills. It is prepaid on a pay as you go basis.

My iPhone is my only phone. I use the data much more than the calls or texting features.

If the plan you have works for you stick with it. I use a lot of data and the plan I have works great for me. And I want to be able to use my choice of phone.

The plans that include monthly billing are contract plans.

No contract pre-paid plans are ones where you only pay for service the months that you want it. Generally, you can pay online or in stores. I usually buy a card in the store and enter the code on my phone.

For years both my husband and I had pre-paid t-mobile phones. He hardly uses his and still has his t-mobile phone. The minutes last a year , but you can just add $5 or $10 and then everything carries over for another year. However t-mobile no longer offers this option...DH is grandfathered in to it.

I switched to tracfone (I'm on my 4th) and love it. Have paid as low as $79 for a new phone and 1 year with 1200 minutes, texts and data. No other monthly fee...so thats less than $8/mo.

Curious as my wife doesn't come even close to using her 1gb of monthly data. Highest i have seen is 400mb, not even half of her max. She originally started with the higher priced Data Plan, but after I looked at her first month and she had used less than 300mb, I told her to switch to the $35 monthly plan.

Just curious, as I prefer the much cheaper Android OS phones?

Yes, I can - and do - use wifi at home or at the home of someone I know & trust. We have wifi at work but it is horribly slow so I use my data (mostly listening to Pandora radio) there.

I prefer to use data when away from home rather than use wifi that may not be safe.
