topic Is 4gb of RAM enough?? in Electronics

My friend is looking for a new laptop, nothing too expensive, and I've been looking on QVC and HSN for laptops that are on easy pay/flex pay and there are a lot of machines with 4gb of RAM. I was steering her toward 6gb or 8gb. Am I wrong? Is 4gb good enough?

She doesn't do anything super intense with her computer, but my laptop is 4 1/2 years old and has 3gb of RAM and if I were buying an up to date machine I don't think I'd want 4gb of RAM. Thanks for any advice!
