Definitely about time, but wow. I'm glad that they seem to (hopefully?) adjusted their thinking on this, instead of making people think that it is a requirement that they upgrade their OS (despite that many will have incompatibilities).

The thing where they are NOW offering a 'decline offer' - uh, DUH! That should have been on the table from day one. There should have been a decline option at which point they completely back off with the pushing AND the updates that are for the express purpose of upgrading the OS.

I hesitate to understand their notion that Win10 is more secure and all that. Well, why not have updates to the other currently supported operating systems to make THEM more secure also? geez already.

I don't have anything against Win10, as I've stated before, but the upgrading on an existing computer is definitely not always a good idea and shouldn't be pushed like that. People who are less experienced are scared by some of their tactics, and that is totally understandable. They really need to back all the way off with this.

They will still sell new computers with the new OS and that is how it should be.

From the article: The pop-ups themselves caused all kinds of confusion. When users clicked the red "X" in the upper-right-hand corner, thinking they had declined the offer, Windows 10 would instead begin to download automatically. Closing the window apparently was an "agreement" to upgrade to the newer software, the Wall Street Journal reports.

Wow, no wonder so many people were confused! Assuming that anyone closing the box was agreeing to the download was a downright stupid thing to do on Microsoft's part. Anyone who has ever dealt with an end user of any software program should know that people often don't read those messages and click to X just to get them out of the way so they can do what they came to do. To make that X then download something is wrong and feels deceitful. That's how you get Malware - it shouldn't be how you get Windows 10.

According to the Daily Mail, they did this because they had to settle a lawsuit for $10000, brought by a woman who got an unasked for update on her work computer, which froze. She sued for a new computer and lost business revenue. The new clearer ability to refuse the update was part of the settlement. I wonder if her new computer is a Mac?
