iPhone says not connected to Wi-Fi

My iPhone 5S says that it's not connected to Wi-Fi. I can't get on Safari. I went into Settings to make sure that it was still connected, and the green "on" button is pushed. However, it won't let me "Choose A Network." I don't really know what to do next. I Googled it, and it said to Reset Network Settings. If I do that, will it mess up other things? What should I do?

Call your provider...they should be able to help or call Apple! I have an Apple air and they are always very helpful....

@Nicknack - I would turn off your router, wait a minute, then turn back on, wait for it to boot up. Check your wifi then. That worked for me last weekend.

@jackthebear @Mj12 @bargainsgirl Thanks everyone! I got it working again. I found somewhere else that said to hold down the home button and top button at the same time until the screen goes blank and Apple sign comes on. That's called a hard reset. It worked. I've never had this happen before.

Yes. And if it's a connection issue, you can often solve it by turning airplane mode on for a few seconds, then turning it back off. That cuts the LTE and Wi-Fi connections and then reconnects to the network. I always try that first because it often resolves the issue and is faster than a hard reset.

I thought iPhones had their own internal internet (or however that works), because when my husband is home his iPhone isn't on our home network at all. It has its own - whatever that is - inside the phone that he can be online wherever he is without having to log into a network.

His iPhone is pretty old, though. Did they change that? That would be good to know so that if he ever gets a newer one I can get him on this network for when he's here. (password protected of course)

@chickenbutt I was hoping someone else would answer you since I'm not very techically inclined. My iPhone is connected to my Wi-Fi at home. When I'm not home, it's using Data. If you go over your Data usage you pay extra, and it's quite expensive. That's all that I understand about it.

Hey Nick! Oh, that's interesting. It makes sense I guess. Maybe it's a 'plan' thing.

My husband's iPhone is through his company's business cell phone account so maybe they have either no usage maximum - or something.

I just have a stupid phone - I've had that type of phone (I only use it as a - wait for it - PHONE!) and have for the last 22+ years with my own personal account. I don't even text, so I have texting blocked, so I don't get charged for (UGH) spam texts.

But I know that his phone doesn't use the network I have here or he would have needed to put the network passcode in it. He's had it for years and has never done that. They have ATT as their carrier at the office.

It must be because he never connect to your home Wifi. You must manually connect the first time you connect to a wifi network. After that initial connection, your phone will auto connect when in range. He's been using his cellular connection all this time.
