I Love Windows 10!

It came down with an update a week ago. I haven't had a problem. I sure like it better than 8.1. Why is everyone complaing about it. It seems every time Windows changes people are ike that and suddenly they love it.

There will be no Wondows 11, 12 ,etc. This is it and within the next year and a half we will all be charged for using Windows. This one will always have up dates and by the way, I was told by Microsoft they are "killing" the fix all of the people are doing to keep it from downloading.

Like anything else, you have to study it for a few days.

I love it too but using Microsoft Edge made me get a virus or Trojan horse on my computer. One misspelling in the search box and I get a website that says warning, I had to reset my computer. Then my credit cards were compromised so I was sure it was that problem. I still have windows 10 now but I use Firefox or Google Chrome as my browser. I don't use Edge any more.

I really like win10. I don't like or use the edge browser. Chrome is my choice. There were a few tweaks I had to do to get my win10 to work properly...the screen dim button had to be fixed and also had to load a small program to allow me to show/hide windows updates like you used to do on win8...so when a failed update keeps looping around over and over, I simply "hide" it and it goes away.

What do you mean by the sentence turned to red by me? Do you mean that everyone will be charged to switch to 10? Or do you mean everyone that switches to 10 will have to pay to use it? Or do you mean everyone will be charged for using windows no matter which version you have?

I don't understand that sentence at all. Thank you!

Oh, the computer guy that installed 10 on my mom's computer said you have to do something to avoid having problems with it but didn't elaborate. Any tips on installing it?

I have windows 7 on an old computer, is it too old to install 10?

I think there might be some mis-information there.

First of all I cannot imagine it possible that they will FORCE everybody to upgrade their existing operating systems with Win10.

Win7 is supported until 2020. Win8.1 is supported until 2023.

Of course, any NEW computers sold will eventually have the current operating system. But I just cannot see any way they can force everybody to upgrade their existing computers - or else what? The computers will just cease to operate? Nah.

I don't think there is anything to worry about, for those of us who wish to NOT upgrade the OS on our existing computers. I have nothing against Win10, but upgrading the OS on existing computers CAN be extremely problematic, so I won't ever do it again. For some, it works out and I'm glad for that. But computers are as individual as the number of people who own them, so it just won't work out for everybody.

@mima My Dell is 7 years old and I upgraded to Win 10 with no problems. I don't use any of the apps, or Edge, so I don't know how they would work with an older computer. For that matter, I don't know what IS an old computer. College aged students think mine is antique.

I have Windows 7 and kept getting those darn updates for Win 10. They are sneaky now, making them appear to be regular required updates. My computer guy did use the app to get rid of those automatic downloads. We'll see how long it lasts. I think it stinks that they manipulate users like this.

I paid for my Windows 7. I'm still a customer.

I panicked because I didn't want to turn off the computer and have it automatically download Windows 10. So far, I have no more updates.

Yesterday, I turned on my work laptop as always and went to make coffee. I came back and the laptop was updating to Windows 10.

I had to sit there for 1 hr and 45 minutes until it was done.

Then my Outlook email kept on freezing. It got so bad that I actually tried to shut down and reboot but the laptop wouldn't shut down.

I ended my workday not being able to open Excel files and Outlook was totally not working. I don't know what to expect next week when I have to turn the laptop on.

Here's what makes me mad: IF IT AIN'T BROKE....DON'T FIX IT and I'm sick-and-tired of having decisions regarding my laptop being made by MicroSoft.

In what world does the retailer control the machinery you purchase and use in your home without asking MY permission if I wanted it downloaded?????

Seriously, MicroSoft must be run by 20 year olds who - having nothing to do - just think of ways to make things more complicated and user UN-friendly.

And....yes, I went on the internet to try and solve the problems I had after Windows 10 took over, but couldn't find any answers.

My blood is boiling....arghhhhh!!!

You will have to pay to use Windows. By then nothing will be around except for Windows 10.

By that I mean you will have to pay to use Windows. Windows 10 is the only one that will exist anyway. A tech friend of mine told me. I suggested MAC and he said they are already being charged from what he heard.

@Frosted Cake, have you ever taken the time to read the EULA that accompanies each generation of Windows? If not you may be surprised by the following excerpt from the licensing agreement:

We do not sell our software or your copy of it – we only license it. Under our license, we grant you the right to install and run that one copy on one computer (the licensed computer), for use by one person at a time, but only if you comply with all the terms of this agreement. Typically, this means you can install one copy of the software on a personal computer and then you can use the software on that computer.

Not to worry, you can uninstall it within 30 days from the Start Menu in Windows 10, @chi5925, if that's what you choose to do.

There are options, if you don't want Windows 10. I have a "FIX" thread here in Electronics, if you want to opt out for now. I know I'm waiting until I replace this laptop to decide as it caused problems here when it installed as well.

If you do decide to uninstall it, MS will leave files on your computer and continue to download the Win 10 OS in readiness to continually try to force the install via Updates...at least until July 29th when the price tag gets added to Windows 10 standalone versions. You should run CC Cleaner (freebie) and the Registry Cleaner within that program to clean them out and speed your computer back up. This is why I suggest you take a look at the thread I mention above. HTH's

I so feel your pain!!! It's like the body snatchers or something! LOL!

The world is now run by big business so some high paid CEO can get his/her big bucks and retire at 35.

The day that upgrade popped up, I couldn't even work my anti-virus. It's as if they had control of my whole computer until I upgraded. I am so glad my PC guy was working and could help me on the spot.

I hope your laptop is working better next week. My PC guy said you can remove the Windows 10 download and get what you had back. I hope you can do that should it not be working well.

@athenian Thank you for your info. I'm guessing mine is about that old too. Mine is an HP all in one and it has never had a bit of trouble in all those years. It was a good one. I'm not sure how to tell how old it is and I can't even remember where I bought it.

Good luck. Before you upgrade, I would do a backup just in case, and check out the thread about uninstalling, too. It's always best to be prepared, then pleasantly surprised when all goes smoothly.

@Stardust2 On July 29th they start charging for Windows 10 so I don't see MS forcing the download without a payment at that point, and I can't see MS spending their time and money to kill or "a fix" that will only be needed for 60 days anyway .....wouldn't make sense....of course they are probably embarrassed that a third party figured out how to stop big ole MS's forced download....LOL!

And how's that Edge Browser working for ya? I've heard complaints of screen freezes with the companion browser to win 10.....

And there have been problems with software applications that worked on older systems not being compatible with Win 10.....and I posted a link with the Top 20 problems with Win 10 in another thread.(which doesn't sound good to me) and BTW all future updates to Win 10 will also be forced .which may eat a lot of space and yet may not even be something the user may ever use.....

You see I'm not one to have to be the first to have the latest and greatest in electronics...i wait until they work out all the bugs......didn't jump aboard 8 until 8.1 came out...and I like 8.1 and when I purchase a new PC and MS works out all the bugs in Win 10 that's when (no pun intended) I will make the switch......

@Gokat My GWX Control Panel is working GREAT ..... check periodically for updates nothing new so far.....My sis got a forced download so I shared info with her...Can't thank you enough GOkat!

@Stardust2 I think there is confusion here....what they were probably talking about is Microsoft is killing their FORCED downloads and upgrade notifications will be going away. ....
