Garmin - should I purchase the protection policy?

Hi all,

The other channel has a garmin special today. I'm going to get it, however, I need feedback about the proection policy. Should I purchase that? Is it usally worth it? It's $25 for 3 years (maybe 2) (repairs/lemon/evenual replacement)

If the protection policy is directly from the manufacturer, then yes.

If the policy is from the "other" channel, I would suggest that you use your favorite search engine to search for both policies.

Compare the two. Especially the teeny tiny small print. You may need a microscope to read it.

Then I would search out "reviews" for each policy. Then make your decision.

I have never had a Garmin seriously malfunction, and I've had several (kept upgrading). I've had them on average 2-3 years and had no need for a warranty.

ok, thank you! I think this is supposed to be better than the one that comes from the manufactuer. they have a comparison list - what they cover. what the manufactuer does not. It's a good idea - I'll do the search, as you suggest.

Ok, yea, I guess it's sort of a gamble. they do say it offers 24 hour computer/customer service support if you need it don't know if that in itself is worth it.!!!!

We have a Garmin that is probably close to 10 years old. Hubby updates the maps every now and then.

Other than the fact that it is older and sometimes slow to find the satallite, we've had no problems with it. So I'd say NO on the protection policy.

The only extended warranty I have ever purchased? Is when I bought a brand new car that I planned on selling myself after 2 years. I have been buying electronics via mail order/brick and mortar, and online since the 1970's, and have never bought an extended warranty. Never have regretted those decisions as for me, it is a waste of my money.

You may want to subscribe to Consumer Report's print or online editions .

not needed at all save yr money,not much can go wrong with a GPS and after 2 years u may want to upgrade
