I've had very good luck with Sharp Acquos. I bought mine from SAMs Club. In fact, I bought all 4 of my current TVs from SAMs Club as I found they had the best prices for really good quality TVs. I also really like Samsong and Vizio (which is the same as Sony). If you really want to read about featores, etc., I recommend going to CNET dot com.

Last year I purchased a 40" Samsung flat screen tv for my downstairs family room from Costco.com. It's amazing - and comes with a 2 year warranty - and for another $99. u can purchase an additional 3 year warranty thru Costco (at square trade). I know ur looking for a smaller tv - so go to costco.com and see what's available. Costco recommended Samsung to me over Vizio. Read the reviews. Of course, u can't beat Costco's customer service.

I once read that stores change the quality of the pictures on the tv's that's on display --- this is probably done to sway customers to higher-priced tv's.

Forgot to mention that the 40" tv I bought from Costco -- price was $300.- it was on sale. Total Bargain!!!!!

I was a Sony gal for umpteen years but was dissatisfied with the last 2 that I bought.

When the last one bit the dust we bought a 65" Samsung at Costco. The picture is great! It was a little hard to get used to the slim frame around it as it seems like the picture is going to run off the ends. But now that I have, the colors are so vivid and HD programs are crystal clear - sometimes a little too clear on body closeups.

The only slight drawback is the speakers are located under the TV. I guess this is common now with the slim frames. We tried a sound bar but ended up returning it.

Ours is a Smart TV but we keep it dumb.

This caught my attention because my 26-year old Toshiba finally died last week and I was forced to buy a new TV.

I actually looked for the cheapest one at Walmart, thinking I would just get one to "get me by" for a few months, before deciding the brand and size that I want to get before football season begins!

Well, to my surprise, the cheapest one had the best picture! I got a 39 inch Vizio at Walmart. The picture, clarity and all is very very good, and the price---- the best feature of all --- was only $209!! I had never heard of or knew much about the Vizio brand, but since getting it home and enjoying it, I've found that it is the brand that my sister, my son and one of my best friends have!!! So, I am happy with Vizio for now!

I would look at them in person. Resolution and picture varies from brand to brand, from model to model. 1080pi will have a better resolution than 720. You can check out the different models in the store, then hunt for it online to see if you can get a cheaper price. Costco and Walmart always have good deals.

It looks better under all the bright lights and also shows less screen(panel) reflections. Some even come with a setting called "retail".

To be brutally honest, I've found little to no difference in picture quality between high and low priced sets of similar stats. And never go by the image you see in a retail setting. Those images are nearly always manipulated to sell certain sets over competing sets.

In a perfect world every set would be identically calibrated by a professional. But then every set would look identical and consumers would be more apt to buy the lower priced sets.

Electronics retailers play all kinds of games to manipulate buyers. Contrast/brightness settings on computer displays/monitors can sell one computer over another. Having a computer doing something in the background, like a full virus scan, can make one computer look slower than another. Some stores have removed memory to make one computer appear inferior. Home theater speakers that are set a tick louder than a competing speaker will always sound better due to a psycho-acoustic effect. A poorly adjusted HDTV can be made to look horrible when it's really good. Pretty much every device sold in an electronics store can be manipulated by store staff to influence a consumer's buying decision. If you make your decisions based on what you see/hear in the store, you're buying what they want you to buy rather than what's best for you.

Recently we bought a 60" t.v. from Amazon rather than our usual Costco (which is 3 hrs away). We liked the ultimate ability to compare features online as well as tons of consumer ratings. We bought a Panasonic and love it, also bought a 5 yr Square Trade warranty. It was delivered in less than 48 hrs through Prime.

I bought a 32In Samsung LED (BN68-04027A-03) from BestBuy for my mom in the Nursing home. I loved it so much I bought myself the exact one. Mine was a little cheaper than my mom's as I bought mine a year later. So price may be even better now. It has a great picture and I really recommend this one for something simple and easy to operate and good quality.

I replaced 4 TVs about a year ago and bought all Samsung TVs. Samsung is a big name in televisions, I love all 4 that I bought.

We may be needing a TV that will be used in very close quarters. Does any reputable electronics company make a TV SMALLER than 24"?

I'm thinking that having my face pressed into a 24" screen will be like parking in the first row at the drive-in! (Look it up, Youngsters!)
