Need tablet advice

I'm contemplating getting a tablet. I would like to use it for streaming Netflix etc. Ayoung man told me that an Ipad is the way to go, however I'm not tech savvy a all, and would appreciate any advice or recs. that you have . TIA.

I'm not either. I just take my finger and poke and point over and over and something happens.

I have several versions of the apple IPAD. I just like Apple products.

I don't know that they are the best (my son-in-law says they are and he owns a computer company).

You don't say how much you want to spend. I think probably even the one's that aren't known are probably just as good.

Everyone is going to tell you something different. In the end you will have to decide for yourself. Good luck.

I love my iPads....I have dish anywhere so I can take it anywhere with me and watch tv or movies 😊

I love my iPad! My daughter has a Samsung Andriod tablet and loves it. I find it more difficult to use. But, that could be because I'm so used to the iPad. One thing that really helped me when I first got it was a trip to the Apple Store. They have great help and will teach you to use it. HTH,

I've been using an iPad for the last 3-4 years but the last update Apple insisted everyone do totally wrecked my pad. I was so mad about it, thinking perhaps Apple did it on purpose so people would buy new ones, that I refuse to buy another Apple product.

Instead, I got a Samsung S2, which is about the same size as my iPad but is thinner and lighter weight. I got it "black Friday" when Amazon had them for $100, off. I find it very user friendly and have enjoyed it. It's 32gb with an expandable memory. The only downside is that it doesn't stay charged as long as my iPad... just a minor annoyance. At this point, I think I'd prefer it over an iPad.

The best? I can tell you that the Android Operating System is the #1 when it comes to sales and not by just a teeny-weeny little bit. There are several reasons for that starting with the price.

You can buy a Samsung or HP for 1/4 of the price of any thing "I". All major brand Android tablets have any unlimited amount of storage space. You can buy as many Micro-SD Cards as you choose to save your pictures/music/video and so on.

Use up your Internal memory on an iPad? Head to the Apple store and buy a new one, or Delete things you really want to save. You can stream Netflix/Utube or whatever you choose with " Quadcore Android" with any 4.2 version on up to the latest Marshmallow version. Netflix looks great on our 10" HP Android 5.0 Lollipop version, no buffering?

Sure the "I" will do some things exclusive to Apple, but the Android will do things exclusive also. Dollar for dollar/feature for feature, you can buy at least 2 name brand Android tablets for the price of the same size "I".

I love the new technologies and I also like paying less for the formats that give you more " bang for the buck". And this electronic geek believes in tablets, that goes to the Android.

There is no way an update can wreck your iPad. If it wasn't working correctly, you could have done a restore and it would have reset it back to the original condition. Had you come here, we could have helped you.

There really is not a price difference between an Apple Air 32GB and a Samsung S2 of the same size.

You will get differing opinions here,

but for someone who is not techsavvy an iPad is ready to go and easy to use.

I have a friend who was really "scared" of an iphone got one and is now sending pictures and texting like an expert.

Closer priced than I thought for those models. Models you mention, Samsung still 50 bucks lower than the Apple on Amazon. $50 is a lot of money to frugal/practical "electronic nuts" like me. No way I'd ever pay $349 or $399 for any tablet of this era of technology. More than $150 for a 10"? I'll pass on all of them.

Bought my wife's first SII for $169. Comparable iPad back then was not even close.

@glb613 I did come here and got excellent help, however, I was unwilling to wipe my pad clean and lose everything without knowing for sure that everything was in the cloud. I understand it can be checked by computer but I don't currently have one.

One day the pad was working fine, I did the download and afterwords had strange things happen plus speed slowed tremendously. It constantly stopped to reload which it had never done before. I watch local TV news and watch movies... That's about all it's good for.

As I posted, you can reset your iPad and it will work fine. I'm not sure what's on your iPad but, if you back it up to the cloud it should be fine. If you still don't trust the cloud and have a new device, e-mail the stuff to yourself, make sure it's there, then reset.

@Kachina624, I remember that thread. Those updates don't wreck our devices, and no, Apple doesn't have surreptitious nefarious tricks to ruin our iPads/iPhones to force us to buy new ones.

As I said then, all you needed to do was a backup/sync, erase, and restore. Since you were willing to purchase another tablet anyway... I don't understand how any worries about potential problems with that procedure could've kept you from trying it. Many of us do the backup/erase/restore occasionally with no problems. You still have the option, and it will allow you to use the iPad for much more than you're using it for now.

@Annabellethecat66, some of the relatively unknown brands aren't "as good." We've seen many threads about buyers' remorse after purchasing some of those. In general, for better quality and better tech support it's worth it to buy better-known brands.

@QVCkitty1, My preference is an iPad. The quality and support are excellent. (I'm using an iPad 3, it's 3 1/2 years old, and I use it every day -- it's been a real workhorse.) If you want to go for a lower price, the refurbished iPads from Apple are a great choice, too, with top-notch warranties and support. In addition, although no device is perfect and no app store is foolproof, you get much more protection using an iPad and their App Store than you will with other devices. (And you won't need any virus protection.)

They're easy to use and you'll get great support from Apple, from the internet, and also from posters here in the Q Community.

Just think about how you'd like to use it and perhaps ask some of your friends and family what they've chosen. I can pretty much guarantee that you'll find many more uses than you had imagined, once you have the tablet in hand.

Whatever you decide, I hope you'll be happy with your purchase!

I prefer other brands .... I have 2 tablets with resolution mre than 350 ppi which is great for reading. (I use my tabelts for reading, browsing and email.) The cost for these two was less than the cost of one iPad. Because I use a tablet a lot, it's useful for me to have 2...when the battery on one needs to be charged, the other is ready to go.
