My two experiences with Windows 10

OK.....I tried for the second time today to download Windows 10.....before I hated it and went back to 8.1, but that was a while ago and I thought I'd give it another try. The thing that drives me cazy is all the other junk that pops up that they want you to download in addition......I swear they want to track and share just about everything you do except maybe your bathroom habits.............I never know what this stuff is and I don't want a lot of extra c rap that gives even more information to gawd knows who out there in cyber-land. Anyway, I did the download again today and I thought it was worse than before......I'm back at 8.1 to stay. Hopefully, somethig better than 10 will come along before I get another computer.

@HULAGIRL----Stay in 8.1, you are probably better off. I installed 10 way back when. So sorry I did. I am not computer literate so I haven't been able to get back. I have just lost a game site I have been on 10yrs, paid. They somehow don't have email address for me. Spent 3 days trying to get help from them to get it back. They want you watching ads all the, I guess. Anyhoo, wait until windows has been out for closer to a year.--------tedEbear

I want a Mac, but there isn't an Apple Store in my area and I don't want to spend all that money and not have the kind of support that I want available.....I love that they give free classes and always are there to answer any questions.....

Windows always says that their lastest downloads makes your computer faster/easier/blah blah blah, but after this Win 10 experience, I think that all they want is more info from us......I didn't understand what most of the things they wanted permission to download were even about.......I think that's what they want.....the ignorance of the user so they can track even more about us.....I know that once we log on, we're vunerable, but it is getting worse instead of better imo.

You can buy Apple Care for your tech support. There are lots and lots of free videos online to help answer your questions and teach you how to do things. I didn't let not having an Apple store close by stop me.

Seriously???? You think Windows 10 is trying to find out everything about your life so that they can share it with everyone??? Do you also think your home is invaded with men from outerspace that are spying on your every move??? Give me a break! Microsoft announced that they are no longer offering any online live help for Window 8 because it is so old and outdated. I would suggest that those of you that can't figure it out to take a community class at the library, or other places that offer them for free and learn the wonderful new features that Windows 10 offers. Photos can be directly emailed, it has Cortana, which is much like the Amazon Echo, or Suri. Just talk to her and she will answer your question. It has a translate button, weather button, Google Maps, IHeart Radio, and these are just a few. It is so worth learning how to use this new version. If one does not want to sign up with Outlook email, you can still keep your old email, and not use Cortana, and a couple of the other features, but the rest are still available to you.

I don't understand why some people have no interest in learning how to operate the devices they own. When you learn the basics, (how to find things, use the menu bar, change settings, etc.), it enables you to apply that knowledge to a new operating system. You can also find just about everything by doing a Google search. It's really no different than how learning to read or perform math enables you to do other activities. Unless you have memory loss or dementia, you can learn.

I'm not as stupid as some of you think I am.......I've set up several computers including my own Wi-Fi. I've also managed to keep a job at a Fortune 100 company navigating the computer software at the company w/o much trouble..........the fact that I don't like Win 10 doesn't make me stupid, it makes my opinion different from yours!!

For me- I save the headaches and heartaches and have professional complete any serious upgrades. Most things I can do but stuff like upgrading an OS, no.

I am one who does not want to talk to Cortana, or Suri, or Echo.

I do not want to share my whole life, I do not want Microsft following me around.

I agree with the opinion that Microsoft is intrusive. They are data mining like crazy! There is MEGA money to be made by tailor made ads being shown only to you. How do they get tailor made ads to you?

They follow every click you make. Sure you can navigate your way through a maze of opt-out sites, but it doesn't really work in the long run.

Opting out is not different than "do not call". You get on the list and all of a sudden there is an 'exempt' list.

Microsoft says this is the final operating system they will ever make. I sure know why! It took them all this time to make an operating system that they pretned is "your new best friend".

Yes, I know I can go to Mac. Apple is the same. Force your hand to use only their brand. Exactly what Microsoft did.

My son-in-law owns a computer security business. He told me not to download it but to wait a little longer. Not for security reasons, but because there are still several glitches in it.

He said several people he knows have downloaded it and had problems with it. These are people who really know their way around computers. Of course they've fixed them themselves, but the average person would find it frustrating.

He told me to wait until 10.1 comes out. It will.

I have a HP and a Toshiba with 8.1 windows. I decided to upgrade to windows 10 and it was a nightmare on many levels. I put both computers back to 8.1 because there is still time before I will have to upgrade. I know my way around computers and still it was a nightmare. I finally broke down and got another computer [HP ] with windows 10. Now with this new computer with windows 10 I now know where I went wrong so it will help me when I do have to upgrade. I don't understand why people would buy brand new computers with windows 7?
