My computers are running a lot slower than I would like--especially my older desktop. Part of the problem is that I need a faster connection, but unless all of a sudden I come into some money, I'll just have to put up with what I have. However, I know I could improve the speed if I got some of the temp items cleared out.

I always clear the cache, as well as going to %temp% and clearing that out. Also, I'm sure someone will suggest defragging, but neither of my computers need that done. What I do need to do is to clear out the prefetch and the temp folders, but I'm not sure exactly what's safe to clear out in either one of those. (Forgive me if I'm calling these folders by the wrong names, particularly the %temp% and the temp folders. I used to think these two were one and the same, but apparently not, at least according to a tech that once cleared them out.)

Could any of you brilliant tech-savvy people out there please help me figure out what is safe to remove and what is not? Thanks ahead of time for any advice you can offer me.
