Have you upgraded to Windows 10?

Have any of you upgraded to Windows 10 on an older computer (Win 7 now)? If you did, are you happy with the upgrade? Do you really think it is worth it to upgrade?

I too have an older laptop - afraid it would shut down my system and then I couldn't use it - so I'm not upgrading - too great a risk when your computer is running smoothly as is.

I did upgrade my old computer to Windows 10 and had so many problems that I deleted the program. However, I know several people who bought new computers that came with Windows 10 and they are thrilled with it.

I wouldn't do it on a bet. I did it once with an upgrade years ago that was offered. It wasn't the worse, but there were limitations that I didn't expect - only because I did NOT do my research so I didn't know better. I figure that's on me. But now, I know better.

The difference now is, especially if you are going from 7 to 10, there are GREAT differences in the OS and, I would imagine, possible compatibility issues with other programs you may be using.

Just really do your research - is my biggest recommendation.

I have not. I did and still do get the pop-up asking me to upgrade, but the one time I clicked in, the reply was that my computer isn't good for 10.

So be it - when the computer dies or they totally stop supporting 7, I'll just buy new. I'm already within 2 months of the average age for a laptop - can't see messing with what's working.

I was going to upgrade (currently have 7) but I saw some experts talking about it on TV that you needed some basic knowledge of certain elements in your computer - I had never heard of these elements so I figured I did not have the knowledge. I will just wait until I get a new computer.

Would never do it myself, although if I felt my computer had a few good years left, spec-wise, I might pay to have Geek Squad or similar do it for me.

I bought a new laptop with Windows 10 because my old laptop was just...old, and full of carp and couldn't be used w/o keeping it plugged in. The cost of decarping and new battery was silly so bought a new one on sale at a great price. I love Windows 10.

If you have Windows 7, keep it. If you have 8, upgrade to Windows 10. IMO

I don't understand all the hoopla about Windows 10. I upgraded quite some time ago and my computer has been fine. In fact, some of the things about Windows 8.1 on my desktop that I didn't like have been improved since the upgrade. My programs (I guess they're called apps now) work fine with it....I had to reinstall an old graphics program due to some minor glitches, but the re-install went well and it's working OK now. Paint Shop Pro 7 is now as old as the hills, but I've been using it forever and it now works fine on Windows 10). Never had a problem with iTunes, despite people warning about all the dire consequences. My iPod works fine, syncs, charges, I download/upload music without a hassle.

Upgraded several of my friends' computers to Windows 10; they were afraid to do it themselves. Again, no issues, no problems. They seem happy with it.

We were using Windows 7 Professional at work. Upgraded to Windows 10. I don't know anybody at work who's had any issues.....I guess we're all just really lucky.

Then again, I didn't understand all the hoopla about upgrading to Windows 8 either. It's not as bad as what people have said it would be. Once I got it set up to suit me (and it did take me a while to get it working for me: getting rid of the Charms, by-passing the Start screen, all that good stuff), I was fine with it. My laptop is running 8.1. It's fine, but I'll probably switch it over to 10 soon; with everything else going on, I haven't had time recently.

I just don't understand all the fear about operating systems.

Most people only learn how to find programs or apps, e-mail and surfing the internet. If anything changes, they are lost.

I know. And I think it's a shame. If you have a computer or an iPad or whatever it is, you should learn how to use it. I get that people don't "have time" or "don't understand". But I just think it's the responsible thing to do. If you buy something, why would you not learn how to use the thing? It boggles my mind sometimes.

I understand asking questions about different software apps or virus protection. But I don't understand why many people don't know basic computer stuff. It's your computer. Use it. Learn it. You spent all this money on it....why would you not want to learn how to operate the thing?

But, on the other hand, that's what keeps computer techies in business.

I don't have a fear of the operating system. I worked as a programmer and I understand computers fairly well.

When I had a laptop with Windows Vista I also had a program called Noteworthy Composer that creates MIDIs. I could make a CD with my own fingers and Vista would not let me copy it because Vista could not verify the copying information (Don't remember just how it was worded) Vista could not get an OK to copy from the author and I was the author!!!!

This is the kind of situation I am trying to avoid. What is the advantage of Windows 10, if any?

Is there an advantage to the every day user.? If so, what is better?

I do more than surf the web.

Only reason I haven't upgraded is because I'm not sure if you need a password to get the computer up every time you turn it on.

Computers don't last forever so eventually you will need to buy new. That's when I use to change operating systems. I never updated an operating system on a current computer until I switched to Apple.

From what I read, people updated to Windows 10 because they didn't like Windows 8. There were a lot of complaints about the live tiles and not being able to find anything. I had a Windows 8 computer and installed Classic Shell because I didn't use it often and it was easier to have it boot to the desktop. Had I stayed with Windows, I would have learned the operating system.

Thanks for the good advice. I don't have problems now using the old program. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
