topic Anyone have their touchpad stop working? in Electronics

I was uning my laptop yesterday and the touchpad on my Dell Inspion stopped working. I am not computer savvy and have no idea why this would happen or how to fix it. I can use my laptop with the external mouse but that isn't what I'm sued to or comfortable when I sit in my recliner. Any tips in what's going on? TIA

SUZY
