Norton Question

I have come to this forum several times and always get great responses. Once again I have a question about Norton Antivirus.

I have been having trouble with IE 11. It hesitates when browsing on the Internet and sometimes freezes the page that I am on. The page will load right up but then the browser does not work. The other day I was browsing on QVC and a message came up about speeding up browsing by disabling ad on so I clicked on yes. Bingo.......my browser was working as it should be. All was good. I then decided to go into Norton Antivirus and noticed that there was a notice to configure Norton toolbar. I clicked on it and I then noticed that Norton Toolbar was disabled and so was Norton Identity Safe Protection was also disabled. I enabled the both of them and my IE is terrible again. My question is do I have to have the both of them enabled or can I do without them. From what I have been reading they are both important so I do not know what to do. Is anyone else having this problem? I tried contacting Norton and got someone that I could not understand but do know that they wanted to make a lot of changes on my PC so I disconnected them. Once before I contacted them and they messed up my PC and had to take it out to be fixed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Edited to say that it is worse using Firefox.

I have a freeze problem with IE 11, and QVC when using Norton 360. I use the two add-on programs. This to me is a problem with QVC. I am not going to stop using Norton. I just change browsers and use Chrome or Firefox.

I just bought a computer that had the free trial Norton. I had to take the Norton off because it was interfering with everything. I use the McAfee that is complimentary from my cable provider with no challenges.

Hi nutmeg.........it interferes with Firefox also on my PC. I think I will be leaving it on too. Unfortunately I just signed on for another year of Norton or I would change ....again. For year I used McAfee until I started having problems with that. I think the more stuff they add to them the worse they are.

hi desertDi ....... Unfortunately I just resigned up with Norton so I guess I am stuck with it for awhile or until I get more and more fed up with it. I think the more stuff that they add on to these programs the worse they are. Enjoy your new computer.

Once in a while I have where the browser is unresponsive/freezes but I think it's just an incompatibility issue. Usually when that happens I just exit out and open it again. That only happened a few times when I was searching/browsing on a few tech sites. I've tried Firefox a few times but I really don't care for it. My browser of choice is Chrome but Edge is quickly becoming my favorite.

Is this what you mean?

My son, who has a college degree in computers says that Norton and McAfee are the worst. Will not let me put them on my computer. They freeze up all the time, and are the cause of most computer problems.

Edited to say that it is worse using Firefox.

It has been awhile since I've used it. but I recall that I did have problems with trying to use it while using it with IE. It just didn't seem to work well with that browser.

Have you tried using it with Chrome as your browser yet. I would try doing that, and see how that goes. You might have better results with Chrome.

You need to turn them both off. There are plenty of sites, not just QVC, that will not let you continue unless they can put cookies on your computer. You can always empty your cache or clear your history everyday if you're worried.

I have Norton Security Suite and haven't had any issues, but I also use Chrome. No IE for me.

I agree with your son. I think Norton used to be good, then it got all bloaty. McAfee was NEVER good.

I actually find that I do very well with free versions of anti-virus software, one anti-malware, such as Malwarebytes, and I use the Windows Firewall along with the hardware firewall that is on my router. Because one is hardware and the other is software they don't conflict.

I think one thing is that I just don't like any of the 'security suite' (combination anti-virus and firewall, etc) types of software I've seen. They get in the way and sometimes are way more problematic than helpful.
