Problem Viewing Items on QVC

Hi, I need some suggestions (help) I am having an issue with in being able to view certain products on QVC.

I am using a Mac Pro, and use Google as my search engine. There are certain items that when I click on them they won't open to the product description and my computer freezes. I've tried everything I could think of even upgraded to El Capitan. I cleared my browser and history numerous times. Got the most updated version of Adobe Flash Player. I even chatted with customer support and they did not have any idea why this is happening. It started a couple of months ago and only for certain products.

To help us troubleshoot the problem you are experiencing, can you share specific item numbers that you are not able to view? Also, what browser are you using on your Mac Pro, Safari? Do you happen to know what version web browser you are using?

@KeyaiHi, thank you for taking the time to assist me. I am trying to look at product number H207064, Santa's Best Fir Tree with RGB+function. Having problem with looking at all sizes of this product. I am using Safari, and just yesterday upgraded to OS X El Capitan from Yosemite to see if that was the issue. As stated I use Google as my search engine. Java is enabled, cookies aren't blocked and I downloaded the latest version of Adobe Flash. Sometimes I will get a message that web site isn't responding when my screen freezes. I am not all that savvy with computer terminology. My husband has no problem viewing the product description and video on his pc tablet, he uses Google Chrome as his search engine. Do you think it could be a problem with my version of Google. I don't use Chrome.

When you go to qvc.com and search the phrase below are you able to see the product detail page for each of the items that appear?

Please share with me what happens when you search and then click on the items (assuming you see the items I see abaove).

I would also be curious what you experience when you search the item numbers specifically.

Hi,

Ok, I went to QVC.com and entered the phrase exactly as you posted. The Search Results page came up, stating "We found 4 results for Santa's Best Balsam Fir Tree with RGB+Function".

Page showed picture of each tree inclusive of item number and brief description.

When I click on any of the four items my MAC starts to load/open the complete item description but responds no further. At that point I am still seeing the Search Results page. I left it trying to open the item for over five minutes.

If I moved my cursor I got the MAC swirling rainbow circle. Today I was able to move my cursor away and navigate to other places on my screen (i.e.., back arrow), on other occasions, the page just freezes and I have to force closure.

When I just try and do a search by item number, the same thing occurs.

This sure is bizarre. I remember a couple of months ago I had the same issue on another product. Unfortunately, I can't recall what that product was.

I would like to figure out what is happening, but honestly since we also have a pc I can go there whenever I experience this again.

If you aren't getting any other inquiries from other customers I really hate to have you take too much time on this.

I appreciate all your assistance.

I tested those items numbers & am experiencing the same issues as the OP. Have been for several months now.

For each of those item #s you posted, I get this error.....

which freezes my Mac.

If I select the "Continue" button, my Mac freezes.

If I select the "Stop script" button, my Mac unfreezes. However, the item page is incomplete-missing items.

@Mz iMacThank you for posting here. I did not see your other post. So I am not alone in having this issue. I even had problems trying to view QVC U-Tube uploads for this item. I did finally get it to open.

@Allegheny, @Mz iMac, and @valentinebbw, I never encounter this problem on my iMac (OS X 10.11.1, Firefox 41.0.2, Flash Player 19.0.0.226) but I do see this reported now and then. It's not related to the search engine, it's related to the browser and possibly certain plugins or addons/extensions.

First take a look at the Firefox support page: "Warning Unresponsive script - What it means and how to fix it" at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/warning-unresponsive-script.

Some people have uninstalled and reinstalled the browser to clear up this and other problems -- but remember you might lose some things, like bookmarks, login data, etc., if you do that without saving them first (see link: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/uninstall-firefox-from-your-computer).

As an aside, even though this script error is related to JavaScript, I'd suggest disabling Java (not JavaScript -- those are 2 distinctly different things and you do want to keep JavaScript enabled). In general, you won't need Java for most activities on your computer and it has been problematic in recent years (some very significant security problems). I disabled Java years ago after they had major security problems and never have needed it since then. You always can re-enable Java when and if you need it later down the road.

Also, if you're having multiple problems try starting up the device in "Safe Mode," then shut it down, then restart it. It won't hurt anything and can clear up problems for you. (http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262)

Your post was very informative. FF 1st instructions didn't work for me so went w/their plan B & got the add-on "YesScript Blacklist." Worked like a charm!!!!! No more QVC script errors. QVC website is the only place I ever get those type of errors.

Afterwards I saw your link for another script add-on. I installed that one too but disabled it. Going to use that one as a backup if necessary.

I have a few FF add ons but did not want to mess w/them as I enjoy them too much.

I know what you mean... I use several add-ons/extensions and sometimes they can collide so I'm always hesitant to recommend them. They can take a wee bit of trial-and-error, but always can be disabled, re-enabled, tweaked, or discarded. Thanks for your post!

First off, I apologize for misspelling your nic in another post. From the other post, I took your and Mz iMac's advice and uninstalled MacKeeper.

I too, also thought that I had uninstalled Java last year, but when I figured out how to get into Library under Finder I still saw it there, so I removed it and also its preferencepane. I still have JavaScript.

Opened in Safe Mode as you suggested and it appears to have resolved most issues I was experiencing yesterday.

I still cannot view the particular item in QVC (Santa's Best Christmas tree with RMG). It still just stalls.

When reading these instructions, they pretty much reference Foxfire which I don't use. I use Safari and almost fearful to try anything else since I don't really have a good base knowledge of these type of things and am kind of winging it. So far I have been lucky and not got myself in a jam that I couldn't fix with advice.

I am still getting the spinning rainbow much more frequently then ever before. I still have a grand amount of storage and memory unused, if that even has anything to do with it.

And to be quite honest, I know nothing about addons/extensions, except I have none.

You have been wonderfully kind assisting us all and I hope you might have some more ideas to pass on.

I didn't realize you were using Safari. I hate to say this, since I'm such a fan of Apple, but I seldom use Safari because it doesn't play well with websites that have problematic coding (and QVC is one of those sites). You'll find that the sites which generate the dreaded "unresponsive script" alert for other browsers will pretty much be the same sites which cause Safari to freeze up with the spinning beach ball.

I just spent quite a while trying all sorts of variations on settings (adding/removing extensions, changing the preferred default encoding, etc.) and I agree that the items you mentioned are just about impossible to view. (iMac OS X 10.11.1, Safari v. 9.0.1) It's hit or miss -- I can see some items with no problem but others don't load properly.

I'm not a website developer but my impression is there's a coding problem here. After years of seeing this kind of problem on this and other sites, I've learned it's important to install and be familiar with at least 2 browsers on your computer. (If someone who knows more about this than I do wants to counter my opinion -- @Keyai -- I hope they speak up and provide Safari Settings changes I haven't found so far.)

I'd recommend that you install Firefox (be sure to install from the developer site -- https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/products/) , and the recommended add-on/extension, although I understand you were hoping to stay with Safari. You can import much of the info from Safari to the other browser when you install it and to me it's pretty easy to use. Chrome's okay, too, but I prefer Firefox. Many of us can help if you have questions about it. I'm sorry for that to be my advice, but at the moment my trial-and-error with Safari and QVC.com is looking gloomy.

Thanks for explaining this issue to me. In just reading, I see that quite a few people use Firefox, probably for the reason you specified. I've always wondered why.

I think for sure Safara is what is causing my problem with viewing items on QVC. Just today I tried to look at the TSV and one product from Valerie's show and couldn't view either. But on the same page for both shows I was able to view other items. Its just odd that this has started relatively recently. I am wondering if upgrading to El Capitan plays a role also.

Since I have my DH's pc tablet and laptop available, I can always use them for Q issues. I am curious about Foxfire but kind of hesitant to

install it, for fear I will screw something up then not know how to fix or reset it.

Since DH is my go to "save me" he probably could figure it out but I would have to listen to him the whole time saying "I told you not to buy this thing, but no you wouldn't listen to me".

Hi, again, @Allegheny! You're welcome. I'm just sorry I couldn't offer more help. If you choose to do so, it really wouldn't cause harm to add a second browser and as I said it's recommended for everyone since there always will be times when one browser has a problem with a site but another one works just fine. The problems might've grown worse when El Capitan was introduced (OS X 10.11), but knowing Safari's history I think it always will be less favored for problematic sites.

I got 5 notifications for your use of the "@" with my nickname! My understanding is when we edit a post which contains an "@" notification it can generate multiple notices. I know I edited mine a couple of times... but not 10 times. A system glitch, which makes it look like we're shouting at the other person to come here and read this!

The more I converse with you the more I learn. I am seriouly thinking of downloading Foxfire, once I get my Mac fixed. It started acting crazy again late yesterday evening, so I am on my DHs tablet. It's opening the launch pad, then would flip back to QVC, the QVC forum page would enlarge on its own, then the screen would slide back to launch pad. I was using it in safe mode and the screen was still sliding and flipping and enlarging on their own. Scary.

Ironically, on this Lenova, I am having the same situation with the text cursor moving around. DH husband said it does it for him too. I vaguely remember something from my work years when this happened but I can't recall how we corrected it. Its a setting we had to change somewhere So if you see mispelled words, it not me.

I'll keep you posted.

@Allegheny, If you're using the Mac while in Safe Mode, you are going to see some wonky things happen. As I mentioned before, just start in Safe Mode to fix problems but then shut down and reboot normally to actually use the computer.

I'm wondering... do you use a trackpad? If so, take a look at this discussion (comments go from 2012 to 2015). This might be a long shot, but these are safe solutions offered and they might fix the problem:

I wanted to add: you'll see related articles/discussions at the bottom of the Apple Support Community page, and you also can enter words in the search at the top to find other topics. Some of the people posting there are very helpful, and sometimes the Apple experts drop in with assistance.
