I a heckuva lot happier with Windows 10 than I EVER was with 8.1.

Of course I was happiest with XP. They couldn't improve on that interface so they degraded it instead. (IMHO of course!).

I hated Win10 when I tried to upgrade from my Win 8.1 so many problems with it. I think when you have Win 10 already loaded on a new computer it makes a big difference on so many levels. I was really glad when I was able to go back to Win 8.1 the tiles never bothered me. I can not wait until they stop with the upgrade already [that will happen July29th of 2016] And my computers are [almost] new just did not come with Win10 so I thought this would be a good upgrade for my computers. Oy , did I learn the hard way!

OMG! Anniecamp, my heart goes out to you. When I got my new 8.1 Windows computer at the beginning of 2014, logging in almost drove me crazy because it automatically took me directly to that darn app screen - what a pain. A few days later, I found out how to change the log-in to automatically go to the desktop and it was uphill from there.

After all that work, I was nowhere near interested in Windows 10 upgrade - so I didn’t accept the offer, but it has tried on several occasions to automatically install on my computer. My 8.1 Windows is practically brand new in my eyes and it serves my purpose. Windows 10 will be my choice somewhere down the road, when I’m ready for a new computer adjustment experience/headache. Until then, I steer clear.

Anniecamp, I hope you can find some help on Youtube as has been suggested by Toppers. Good luck.

LadyA

I hope you end up getting used to it. I imagine you could probably install Classic Shell (classicshell.net) and make it look like the older operating systems. That's what I did on our Win8.1 computers because I hated the silly tiles and couldn't find anything. Now they can look like previous operating systems where you are used to being able to find stuff.

Just a thought that might help.

I'm really over this new thing with them creating new operating systems every five minutes, though! How about just making improvements on the current ones?

I'd like to see Microsoft go back to a smaller, simpler operating system. My original computer came with MS-DOS, then was upgraded to Windows 95 and that computer only had a 1.2 gigabyte hard drive. A new install of the 64 bit version of Windows 10 requires 20 gigabytes of space.

Computer hardware has gotten faster, memory is faster, so our computing should be faster, but it's not due to the bloated OS. Pare down the OS and keep it minimal. A minimal OS should be easier to upgrade, safeguard, and would take advantage of the speed of modern computer components. When you look at the improvements in computer hardware, you'd assume computers would work like lightning by now. Instead they still putter along at about the same pace as before.

Yeah, those '...For Dummies' books are very good. You couldn't get better broken down explanations of stuff. I've had a few of them in the past and was never disappointed.

Unfortunately, that's the ticket - to sell more stuff. They don't care if some of us want to have a computer last 5+ years. The goal is to sell as much stuff as possible so they try to make everything obsolete quickly.

Since I started using only laptops, my computers last a good long time. I didn't have that kind of luck with desktops, which is why I stopped buying desktops. YMMV, of course.
