There is an old expression used around computers, If it is not broke do not fix it.

totally agree with you, but my question was really "are they stil pushing the upgrade"? I thought the process would have been completed by now...

After several attempts I finally was able to upgrade to windows 10. What a nightmare on so many levels. I had the option to go back to windows 8.1 and I was glad I went back. I can not wait until they say I cannot upgrade anymore. A year is too long to wait.... too too long.

Delivered? no, there is no delivery of the Windows 10 upgrade just click on the icon and it will take you though the upgrade depending on your computer the space you have might take hours. Be prepared for that! Good luck to you.

totally agree with you, but my question was really "are they stil pushing the upgrade"? I thought the process would have been completed by now...

They are still pushing it........I wish they would stop that already!

Me too! You cannot permanently get rid of the icon. When you disable it, the next time you turn the computer it's back. That is irksome. Plus, I think that my a/v sees it there and wants to make my computer ready for Win10, even though I've never requested the upgrade.

I don't understand why we have to wait until July29/16 for them to stop pushing this update. I did indeed reserve the upgrade not knowing so many bugs were still there. Okay I upgraded did not like it and now I would like the option to decide if I want to upgrade again which I do not. so I wish I could just click the option for them to stop showing the icon. Oh well, Microsoft does it again!

I have a 4 year old Gateway laptop that runs just great on Win 7. I'm thankful I never bought a new laptop during the Win 8 period. I figure when I get ready for a new machine, it will already have Win 10 loaded, and away I go with that. I see that icon at the bottom of my screen and am not at all tempted to mess with it just because it's new!

Apple - Yeah, that's the thing. I don't mind if they are offering it until the end of time. But they SHOULD offer the option of saying 'no' (opt OUT) and making it go away forever. That shouldn't be so difficult.

It might be silly, although I did have that one thing with my a/v software, but I feel like other programs are seeing that and trying to make my computer '10 ready'.

I READ today THAT a10 download was secretly downloaded as a' important download'

.i uninslalled after reading about it as my computer was sluggish.. it took up a lot of my disk space even tho i run everything to keep it clean.

Believe me its no walk in the park on a nice sunny day. You did the right thing I was never so glad to see window 8.1 again

You can un- install until the cows come home it will come back as soon as you upgrade updates again. On July 29th 2016 windows will remove the icon and the upgrade for good.

What I recommend (FWIW) about Windows updates is that you don't let them automatically update, rather have it notify you that there are updates available.

Then you can 'hide' any that you already know you don't want and go ahead and install the rest.

So, if you uninstall this particular one, just watch for the number in your next batch of updates. You can right-click on it and choose 'ignore update'. That way it won't process and it won't keep showing up.

You can always go in and 'unhide' anything you want if you change your mind.

I'm noticing now that my computer is putting the upgrade to the Win10 operating system in my Windows Updates. *sigh* It's almost like they're trying to force it.

If you have your computers set to automatically do the Windows Updates, you might find yourself with Win10 problems when you didn't even ask for it.

What i did was to do the 'hide update' to make it go away. Weird!

CB, I have mine on automatic updates and even though they are bundled in with the other updates they all fail as I did not tell Microsoft I was ready to upgrade (I was stunned the first time I saw them but I figure as long as they fail it's ok with me).

They did state eventually (I believe next year) they will force the upgrade on those that have not done so. I hope to have a new laptop by then with Win 10 already installed as mine is on it's last legs.

I better start behaving because I would really like a laptop for Christmas . . .

Apparently I won’t be updating from now on, since I can’t get the monthly updates without installing Windows 10. When I select the updates I want, it just takes me back to “Upgrade to Windows 10” screen with only a “Get Started Now” button. I’ve read some possible work-arounds for this, but it’s too complicated for this little old lady. I hadn’t wanted to upgrade to Win10 quite this soon, but I see that Microsoft is just going to continue to make it more difficult to keep using the operating systems we like. If I didn’t need the internet for a few basic things, I’d just throw this computer out the window and forget all this stuff.

I don't see an 'update' for Win10. When I open the Windows Update window, it's already to be downloaded, and says "Upgrade to Windows 10" with only a "get started button". When I click on "check all available updates" I do get the list of monthly upgrades, but when I click on any of those that I want to download and install (without Win10), it just takes me back to the Upgrade to Windows 10 screen and the only option is to "Get Started Now", which I assume means that Windows 10 will also be downloaded, which I don't want to do.

I've Googled this problem, and some other people have the same thing happening. I've apparently let a couple of Windows 10 updates get through, although I haven't downloaded the OS. Some people have described complicated ways to get around this, but as I said, I'm a novice and I don't understand what I'd have to do. Besides that, it looks to me as if Microsoft is just going to continue to find ways to sneek Win10 onto our computers, whether we want it or not. I did plan on getting a new computer with Win10 on it, but just not yet (I prefer them to get a few more bugs out). This stuff keeps changing so much that I'm not able to keep up with a lot of it--I need some grandchildren around to help me!
