thinking about a new computer.... trying to figure out if I should wait til W10 comes out... close enough now that I suppose that makes more sense

Pretty much any Windows based computer you buy now will come with a free upgrade to Windows 10, so if you find a good deal, you can grab it now.

You do not have to get a new computer to reserve a free upgrade to windows 10 . I already reserved mine. And I also checked out the new look for the desktop it looks and acts very much like windows 7. You should see a windows icon on the right hand side of your desktop click it on to see if you want to upgrade or not.

Is anyone getting a message that your graphics card isn't compatible with 10? My laptop does this. I think I found the appropriate info online but haven't yet delved in. Looks like maybe updating drivers will be necessary.

This is the main reason, I am not planning to upgrade my two computers to Windows 10. I could have hardware and software issues, and who will provide major tech support.

Gardenman.... the HP that I was looking at said that the upgrade was included "free, for the first year"..... hummmm, made me wonder what will happen after that... assuming a fee??

Interesting. Typically the Office 365 is free for the first year, but the operating system should be included free for life. I can't imagine, nor have I heard of, Microsoft licensing Windows 10 on a yearly basis. It's possible/likely the 'free, for the first year' was referring to Office 365 and not Windows 10.

The software to upgrade is free for the first year after windows 10 is released. It remains free for the life of the computer upgraded. There is no annual fee. After the first year the cost to upgrade is $119 so it is a good offer. If you have critical software you should check the manufacturers website for compatibility info. I have been using the preview version and have had no issues on my 2007 laptop.

I guess you have seen by now that Windows t0 is now on QVC with many choices at sale prices. I am wondering if they plan to have a TSV with Windows 10 any time soon. They have a One time only on air now but it is 15 inch screen and I use 17. I also need to do some research on which type processor is best now.

Any IT people here, would appreciate if you have any updates on what is not considered the best processor. TIA

wait until august. The computer they were demoing on the air had Windows 10 insider preview 10162, not the OEM version. They are trying to get people to buy it now before 10 goes OEM. Once it goes OEM which I think is this week, you will start seeing machines in all colors and processors and what not. This presentation with Dell was a test to see if it would be popular.

When I need a new computer I use a benchmark site to compare processors. It really does not matter whether you buy an i5-4000 or an i7-4000 series processor. The i5-5000 or i7-5000 just came to market recently. These run a little cooler in a laptop.

Just an FYI if you've been a beta tester, Microsoft just released the final version that will come out on July 29. it's version 10240 and is RTM. No longer beta.

I too would like any input on the HSN special for saturday. It really has everything I wanted but after trying to compare prices online I cant seem to find another computer with that particular configuration. So I'm not sure if its truly a great deal or not.

Just as a follow up, I finally got the Window 10 pop up for the update on my taskbar, & I registered for it, so I guess I am set.

Apparently one of the updates from June didn't install which is necessary on your computer for the Win10 to install later this month. I did some detective work on my automatic updates from Windows and when I saw that one had failed, I ran auto-fix, then ran updates again and it appears that's what I needed.

I would really like to take advantage of the HSN TSV (I prefer HP and this two+ year old is a Dell, but......) I will probably hold off for awhile to see how this works and give Win10 time to work out the inevitable "bugs"

Of course a "girl" can always change her mind at the last minute.....
