Does anyone here know how to delete/cancel an FB account when the username and password is not known? My beloved sister died three and one-half years ago and yet people are still posting on her (2) FB accounts. It stabs me in the heart every time I see it.

did she have children or a poa? they should be responsible for doing it. i have seen people leave up deceased persons' facebook accounts so that people can leave remembrances there.

i you dont think it has been left active on purpose then here is the link to request that they close the account or memorialize it. you will need to upload a death certificate, a birth certificate, or other "proof of authority", and they may require some other verifications.

Really? I would have to provide an Internet site with proof of death to get an account deleted? How is this legal?

It states death certificate, birth certificate or "proof of authority" (like Power of Atty). It's not to prove the person is deceased, it's to demonstrate that your relationship to the deceased is what you claim it is and that you have the "right" to have the account closed.

Facebook, whatever your opinions of it are, I personally don't use it, is a publicly traded company and is hardly just an internet site. If you don't agree with their legal forms of proof, blame all the morons who make fake accounts and impersonate other people.
