I am having so much fun with Alexa. I have a Fitbit and it is a challenge for me to get my 10,000 steps in a day, especially on lazy days. I have been setting Alexa's timer for 15 minutes and when it goes off I select a playlist for her to play. I walk to the song (walk around the house or walk in place) and when the song is over I set it for another 15 minutes and repeat the cycle. You don't have to select a song each time, you can just hit pause at the end of each song with the remote and when it is time to walk again, hit the play button. You get a variety of songs and speeds.

I have to get up and walk even if I'm in the middle of something (my rule for myself) when the timer goes off.

Just an idea to make getting more active kind of fun.

Amazon Echo Alexa question?

If I set an alarm, can I get her to say what the reminder is for? I can't figure out how to do that. If she can't, I think she needs to learn. I wonder if Amazon is taking suggestions on how to make her do what we want.

In other words, here is what I want her to do. Maybe I'm not asking correctly.

Alexa, tomorrow at 4:00 PM remind me to call Sue.

Alexa, on February 25th at 3:00 PM remind me to pay my monthly sales tax for my store.

Alexa, tomorrow at 10:00 AM remind me to make a delivery.

I would love to use her in my business to remind me to do things on my calendar. I need more than the alarm going off. I need her to tell me what needs to be done. That would be great.

Or how about birthdays?

Alexa, Remind me on June 9th at 10:00 AM to call Mom and tell her Happy Birthday.

The alarm will go off, but it won't tell you what it's for. Amazon is taking all kinds of suggestions on features to add (and this is a common one.) To send feedback go to your Echo app and from the home menu click on "General Feedback" and a form will pop up where you can send them any suggestions you have. They were very responsive in the early days of the Echo will callbacks coming within minutes of any suggestion being offered. They want to know what Echo users want and they're pretty good at adding new features. Drop them a note and they'll take it under advisement.

Thanks Gardenman. I will give them this suggestion ""again"". They might listen if enough ask.

Alexa would be a great assistant at work if she could do this. Thanks!

I actually stumped Alexa. I asked her how many points is an English muffin on the Weight Watchers program (I already knew, was just testing her) and she couldn't find an answer for me.

I have one more thing to say about the alarm issue. The sound is not alarming enough! It is too soothing. Make sense? It is not noticeable enough for me. Anyone else think that? I have it turned up as loud as it will go and it just blends with the tv. I need something with a high pitched sound.

As far as I know, you can do a to-do list that shows up on your Kindle, and you can set an alarm, but you can't do a reminder.

I would very much like the reminder read out to me in the morning. I think a feature to read back a to-do list of the day would be GREAT.

We can suggest it--as mentioned earlier in the thread, they are looking for improvements.

I love the Echo--when I'm wakeful but don't want to stare at the clock and focus my (unaided) eyes on the clock, I can just ask Alexa what time it is. And the temperature. Brrrr. Pull up the covers and go back to sleep. Until SPRING....

I believe the alarm volume and music volume are separate. (I could be wrong about that though.) You can set the alarm volume by going to Settings and then pan down to ""Sounds"" on the Echo App. (""Sounds"" is under ""Metric Measurements"" in the ""Settings"" menu. It's pretty easy to overlook it there.)

What better way to test an alarm than on a sleeping husband? Or are you one of those ""let sleeping husbands lie"" types?

On 3/7/2015 gardenman said:
What better way to test an alarm than on a sleeping husband? Wow!

On another note....Call me crazy! I wanted an Echo for my store really bad and I know I will be waiting forever. I tried to get one in DH name, and no invite yet. I have to constantly remember to do things and set alarms and this would be so useful, plus a great conversation piece for customers. I would also like to play music softly in the background. I snagged one today on Ebay at the inflated price of $187.50 with free shipping and no tax. I think it is well worth that price, even though the seller is making money. If I ever get the other invite, I'll still buy it for $99 and either use it in the bedroom or sell that one. I'm excited. I should get it by next Saturday or before.
