I have windows live. Usually when I am typing or emails, I like to change the font ever once in a while. Instead of the small font. I almost want to type in caps. Still can't figure out how to delete emails permanently . Liked 7

When all else fails I always come to the QVC boards . I recently bought an HP Pavilion laptop. I have windows 7 on my older laptop and love it. I have to say I really don't like 8 at all. I am to the point where I am thinking of having 7 installed. I have a few issues with it . Might sound petty but I can't change the font like on 7. How do you delete your deleted emails permanently? What is classic shell? Hope someone reading this can help me. Thank you Nannycakes

The entire world hates 8. We have it on one computer and despise it. It's my understanding that it is actually 2 different operating systems mashed together in a very poor fashion.

I would have 8 removed and install 7 in a nano second but then I'm not expert.

If this info is of any use to anybody... we just purchased this laptop, a refurbished hp with the specifications of my "old" school laptop. I just LOVE this model , and it is an OS Windows 7.

I just learned how to add fonts and will pass along the link that tells simply how to install new fonts, if anyone would like it.

Win 8.1 really isn't much different from 7. If you're running Win 8, do the update to win 8.1. After you do that the screen that is displayed after booting is the desktop, not the tiles. It will look familiar to you.

Sorry, I can't help you with fonts and email.

FWIW, I like 8.1 a lot.

Exactly what don't you like about Windows 8, and have you updated it to 8.1? Just about anything can be customized to your liking.

What font do you want to change, and what do you want to change about it? Do you want to change the style, the size? Are you talking about the font in your browser?

You OS doesn't necessarily have anything to do with your email. What email are you using? Are you accessing it through your browser or through an email client (software)?

I can't stand Windows 8 either. Yesterday, I spent 1 hour just trying to figure out how to copy and burn a CD and could not find the correct program. It was totally useless and the help instructions were just as bad. I finally fired up my old computer and had the job done in minutes. Sorry, I can't help with your problems as I am clueless to this system. Gail

I don't understand why people would want to go back to windows 7? Technology goes forward not backward and I don't mind windows 8.1 I am used to it and it works well for me. Never had a problem with it thus far. My boss tried to install windows 7 but that was a disaster for her the applications we use today are just not compatible. And she had to install numerous updates everyday. There is a way to use the start screen and not the charms so the desktop does look like a windows 7. I read a thread on here that whoever has windows 8 will have to update to accommodate the new applications windows will not support any longer. I am looking forward to the windows 10 that will be coming out soon.

For example, there is no way it should take an hour to go through the apps and find a CD burning program.

Well.. I do not burn CDs but, if I did, I am sure it will not take me a hour to install it.

The entire world certainly does not hate Windows 8. And updating to 8.1 was a piece of cake.

I've been using 8.1 since last summer and have not found it difficult to use. And believe me, I was apprehensive about it, largely because of reading various threads about all the bad things and how people hated 8.1. When we got the new computer, I sat down and went through the OS, looking for things I use regularly, figuring out how to eliminate the password and how to get of those charms. I set it up to start immediately to the desktop, thereby getting rid of the Start screen unless I needed it for something. I've burned CDs, I've watched tv programs. It's a new OS, but everything was new at one time. I don't understand what all the hoopla is about.

I'm using Mail Live (I think it's called) and have not had any trouble with it.

We recently bought a new laptop and that has 8.1, too. It's not a problem. I did the same thing with the laptop, setting it up to operate the way I wanted it to. I did keep the password requirement, since it's a laptop and not a desktop.

(But then one of my computers had Vista and I survived. If I can survive Vista, I can survive anything.)
