Dont let the computer geeks in...

Less than a month ago had one do someclean up work and have had many small issues and things not work or disappear since, paid close to $300.00. Yesterday had them take a remote look at my PC, now my L drive has completeely disappeared and I can not scan or download pictures. Of course they are oh it couldnt be us all attitude which is exhausting and ticking me off. They put some pretty zealous anti malware on..MALWAREBYTES and another ad blocker programer. I will be working on this tonight and welcome input, I am trying to stay cool, but I am highly irritated, I really trusted them and paid alot.

I don't know a whole lot but I use the free version of Malwarebytes and it is a good program that has saved me many times. It sounds like these guys screwed up your computer. You need to talk to their manager. I would try and see if you can return to a previous version of your computer programs. I know you can do that on your browser software. Good Luck.

This is a good example of why it's important to know how to maintain your computer yourself. It's also a good example of why it's important to have a current backup of data you can't afford to lose.

I like a program called Hitman Pro to cleanup malware. It has a 30 day trial. I use this with Malwarebytes.

Not to hijack your thread, but Malwarebytes is not compatible with my antivirus program (Kaspersky) and I had to remove. My computer is none the worse for it.

Your story seems close to mine. And I almost hesitate to print any of it. Everything is posted on the Internet in one way or another. I checked some of my posts came up under my name here. Anyway, I practically adopted this young fellow when he lost his job with a major office store chain. He helped us, yes. I paid him, yes. But over the years his price went up and up and up and he charged by the hour and then stalled for time.... hours and hours of time. Now he has HIS OWN BUSINESS (lost job again) and he wants big bucks to even answer a question on the phone. I do lot of things without a charge especially answering questions, you would think he of all people would give me a five minute break with a pressing question on my computer that just happened... IP address issue.

LOL, this is just getting more interesting by the day. Well, it was a slurge on my part, I knew I would pay and I didnt mind because I have many other things on my plate and did not want to really get too deep into the PC. That being said, in my mind, I pay and you make the problem go away, thats why I pay. Wjhat happened was a few changes were made without my consent and I got double talk and ultimately I big loss of a much needed function.

I did call them back and spoke to a manager, the manager, nicely explained I needed this really fixed. The original guy had remote access to my PC all Fri afternoon and Fri nite, still not working. I explained it all in detail to the mgr, he was great and said he would send somebody over, one of us top guys in the next few days. Great I thought!!! Anybody can make a mistake and sometimes two heads are better than one.Its not personal, its technical, right?

OK, so next thing I do is sign on SAT, a few hours after we spoke. The minute I did , I knew my PC had been adjusted yet again as the colors were slightly change and everything was fixed, all the icons were back, the drive was back etc. I feel now a bit unsettled because it looks to me as if they went in again after that call and worked remotely without my knowledge. I mean, this is very odd, please tell me if this sounds weird, thank you.

There is an option to disallow remote in your system/security menu. You can go there and click it.

Why don't you start over? Save everything you can't afford to lose, use either the recovery partition or the recovery discs you made when it was new and restore it back to the factory condition.

My son is an IT tech. I have him fix anything problems I have on my puter. He can even do it remotely which is great since he doesn't live in our town.
