Hey dooBdoo. I am not on my Mac right now ( obviously, lol ) but I think if you click the plus sign at the bottom of the left pane on the mail app, there is a drop down where you select different places. I think this is where I selected on my Mac, and when I did it created its own section within the left pane. I don't think I knew what I was doing back in the day when I set that up, lol. But I started using it, and now I feel tied to it because of the trail of messages I have stored there. It comes natural for me to look there, or save there for the thing I use it for, and afraid if I move everything to somewhere else I won't find what I need, lol. Hard to teach an old dog theory.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!!

Now, for the past few weeks I haven't been able to send emails that contain a link in them. It'll just keep showing up on my screen when I log on and it says that neither Gmail nor Yahoo are able to send them. One I had already forwarded onto friends successfully. But I forgot a few who had new email addresses so I re-forwarded....and it wouldn't go thru.

I'll choose both email providers and those emails keep coming back for weeks and will NOT go thru. What the ....???

I've already opened the email manager but it makes no sense to me as everything appears to be correct on that screen.

ANY ideas out there will be greatly appreciated. TIA

Let me see if I have this straight - you send the emails (trying from two different accounts) but then you get something back that says it didn't go through?

If thats right, what does the return message say - exactly?

Whenever I get a message come back after trying to send it is usually a result of an incorrect email address. Make sure you check the address you are trying to sent to very carefully. Sometimes, when this has happened to me, everything looks fine..and I get frustrated that my mail isn't going through, thinking its something with my mail program. Only to find later I didn't have the right address.

My suggestion is to physically type in the address in the too field, don't let it auto fill. Could be something incorrect with what it is trying to auto fill with.

I send out links to family/friends/DH, etc... and the emails DO auto-fill. I'll try that again.

But for those cute pet photos, I send them out to a whole list of friends. In the past they've gone thru but I get a response from a guy's name who says that a particular email address isn't working or is too full or whatever - and it has failed. Nothing about the others. They were all successful.

I have clicked on "Try Again Later" so the next time these emails appear (there's two now), I'll take down exactly what it says and enclose it.

As for now, frustration reigns!!

Your friend's email might be full, might have a technical problem, or they might have certain settings (like the filters, or "rules" we can set up, for example, or the provider's native, built-in spam filter) which are detecting your message as having a potential problem.

Nope, some emails won't go thru to anyone's address - meaning NOBODY will get it.

It reads, "CANNOT SEND MESSAGE USING THE SERVER YAHOO!" (Or Gmail, My capitals) "The Yahoo! SMTP connection to server "smtp.mail.yahoo.com" failed. Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent."

There are options to click the 'Connection Doctor' which shows that both Yahoo! and Gmail are both online (but still won't go thru) or you can click on "Edit SMTP Server List" but that brings up a box with stuff I know nothing about. But there's nothing there that screams 'don't let the emails go thru' either.

I've signed out of Yahoo! and Gmail and signed back into both with successful passwords and they're working. Keep in mind that I continue getting emails so both servers are working in that respect. I've also had emails for weeks that will not go thru - so I delete them. Sad.

I probably could with a lot of difficulty. Don't forget, on this computer those email addresses are all remembered and auto-filled so it takes seconds to forward. I'd have to find everyone's addresses and send them on. Time consuming drivel but I'd sure love to forward these. I'll need to think about that.

However, I've noticed on the "Connection Doctor" that the Yahoo! and Gmail accounts in IMAP are both up and running but the STMP accounts are not. Any idea how I can switch to the IMAP servers???????

TIA

I am not sure what that is, I don't use either of those emails.

Are you trying to sed something with a link, or attachments? I am pretty sure that both Yahoo and Gmail have size restrictions. So if this is something with attachments, the reason it won't send is because it is too big. If thats the case, you could send multiple emails, and attach 1 or 2 items to each email. This would shrink the size.

Is it something with pictures showing in the body go the email? That would have something to do with size also. You could go to the original email in your inbox, and click on the pictures, then save to your computer. Then to send to the people you are trying, do as I said above, send multiple emails to each sender, with the pictures attached from what you saved on your computer. But don't attach all to one email, just 1 or 2, which will help with size.

Can you try to send each of these people a new email, nothing attached and no links, just say in subject line - Test. And type a message to them to let them know you are having trouble sending and want to see if this works. If that email goes through to them, then I know without a doubt your problem is the size issue I mention above.

Hi Lynn,

Just tried to send a short email to my usual peeps to let them know of the trouble I've been having (I've gotten emails from them asking if I was on vacation since they haven't rec'd anything!!). It would not go thru.

The usual box that's been popping up says that both Yahoo! and Gmail are offline. But when I click on 'Connection Doctor' it again shows that both Yahoo! and Gmail are ONline with the IMAP connection but not the STMP connection. Apparently my emails are sent thru the STMP. This IS frustrating. Why can't it be easy to switch them?? Or, maybe I'm just too old for this technology!!

I'm using the Mac mail app on the bottom of the screen and it's been programmed to bring both my Yahoo and my Gmail emails in this program. (Oh, I only access emails on my iMac, never on my iPhone or any other device as you asked previously.)

Now the latest update - DH got my mails going thru!! He detests Apple products (b/c he's never used them and doesn't understand them) but he clicked thru every single tab that I've got and he has me switched over to the IMAP server. As soon as he clicked that my emails came back to me! (I always send them to me and my friends in the BCC line.) I did kiss him!

Feel free to continue with what you were going to suggest, though. I may have to utilize the info in the future. I hope not but you never know with computers!!! And TIA!

Well I am happy to hear that you (hubby) got it working again.

Here are some links -

This is a very good link from Gmail.

First read about the 2 options by clicking on the 4 + signs. Then, once you've decided on whether you want to set up as IMAP or POP, click next to whichever you selected. It then walks you through the exact instructions for what you need to do on the gmail account at gmail.com. When done, scroll down and click Apple Mail (in this case setting up iMac). It will then show you the exact instructions to set up on the Mac mail app side.

https://support.google.com/mail/troubleshooter/1668960?hl=en

Here is another link for gmail set up. Basically walks through the same set up instructions above, but shows with pictures. (NOTE: the instructions are for IMAP set up only, POP will be different).

http://www.macworld.com/article/2033842/make-mail-and-gmail-play-nice.html

Here is the link to set up Yahoo!

http://pop2imap.com/yahoo_applemail.php

Would you believe this problem is happening again? But I can't fix it this time??

I clicked on the above links but since those email servers are already configured on my Mac, it doesn't do anything. I went to the Mail tab on my Mac but no difference.

It's SO weird, there's an email I'm trying to send DH (right across the room...) and it will NOT go thru. I'm forwarding other emails I got from a friend and they're going thru like a dream, including to DH!! Every once in a while this computer gets a bug up its butt and just won't forward an email. Right now my little postage stamp is jumping up & down!!! Arrggghhh!!!

I have had a MacBook pro for a number of years. Mail got out of wack after a while and I spent a huge amount of time trying to fix it. I finally decided it wasn't worth it and just use my browser and go directly to the email platform. For some reason mail just want playing nice! And I decided I didn't need a constant nuisance.
