How do I delete a song off my iPad?

I've already check Apple help topics and what was suggested doesn't work. I purchased a song on my iPad and I can't get rid of it. I've done the swipe then delete and it's still there. I can delete every other song except the one I purchased using the iPad. I swear, my iPad is possessed.

All I have to do is post and I figure it out. I went into setting and turned off show all music.

Did you try removing it via Settings-->General-->Usage-->Manage Storage-->Music, and using the edit feature there?

jackthebear, As I mentioned in my post it can be removed under Settings. And I think the OP found a way to hide it in Settings-->Music-->Show All Music.

(eta: I almost forgot, you also can choose which songs to sync to the iPad or iPhone, in the iTunes settings.)

Yep

I had a bunch of songs I d/l'd from Starbucks that I know hate and will always be there any song you get from the iTunes store will always be there on the understanding that you may want to get it back someday, which does make sense; in the event of a disk crash. Wish there was a way for the user to make that call though

I got my sync wrong somehow once and my IPad squealed to my IPhone about a song being bought and my phone texted me right there and then and asked for it. Weirdest thing ever.

jackthebear, I feel that way about old apps I tried out and decided I didn't like. Even though we can trash them on the iTunes sync pages, they'll stay in our main iTunes store account forever and ever.

There is no general>settings>usage>music. There is a settings>usage>manage storage>used>music. Since I hid the song I don't want playing, it isn't there. I don't have problems with any other song, just the one I BOUGHT through my iPad.

DooBDoo. I am not sure that is correct? Apple support docs say what you say, that it can be, but I couldnt. Even Apple store genius couldn't do it. I purchased songs on my iPhone and others on my iPad. I tried to get them off and they wouldn't. It was specific to the individual songs I purchased on the individual device. So ones purchased on phone wouldn't come off, and same with iPad. It wasn't until I upgraded to iOS 8 and did erase and reinstall, then set up as new device that they are now not on them. I will only purchase using my Mac now. This way nothing stores on the wireless devices. I can access anything through iCloud when on wifi. Plus I subscribe to match, so can access all music, not just what was purchased through iTunes.

That's the problem I was having. I was making a playlist of Christmas music and in the middle was a pop song. Arrrrrrrg! But once I changed the setting not to show all music, it's no longer there. I plan on resetting my iPad soon. I hope between doing the reset and learning what I have here, I won't be so irritated with the device.

Are you running iOS 8? Make sure the song is actually downloaded to your iPad and not stored in iCloud. You see in ""show all music"" if it's in the cloud (likely). Once it's on your actual iPad you should be able to swipe to delete.

Have you read all of the posts? If not, read them. I'm not the only person having the problem when a song(s) is purchased using the iPad or iPhone.

go to iTunes on your computer. Then click on purchases under account information and then hide it. Only thing that now works for me. Don't know why you can't hide something selectively rather than just a Show All or nothing option in settings. Apple!

Oops! Thanks, glb613! That's what I get for doing it from memory. I corrected my post to show the correct categories to click on to review the songs and decide whether or not to edit from that point:

Settings-->General-->Usage-->Manage Storage-->Music

Hi, Lynn! It's worked for me in the past. (However, I don't use iCloud... yet... still a skeptic even though I know I'll eventually use it.) I haven't encountered any device-specific-purchase oddities so far, but I wonder if the problem cropped up during various iOS changes.

I buy songs on my iPhone constantly and am able to connect the phone to my laptop, go into iTunes, uncheck what I don't want and then sync. I did a web search and the fix I suggested is the that others have said works for them.
