I have a MacBook Pro. when I got it, there was a photography program already installed ( I can't remember what it was called) but I found it confusing so I trashed it. I had a Kodak camera then so I started using the Kodak Easy-Share program because it was easy and basic to use for just downloading, simple editing and saving photos. I've since moved on to only using my phone for photos but have continued to use the Kodak program.

I just read about an app called Intensify Pro that sounds interesting. but I have questions: if I install this program, when I am ready to transfer photos from my phone do I use this program to transfer the photos? and is this program also for storing photos, or is it only for editing then transferring to some other program for storage?

right now when I want to transfer pics from my phone to my computer I just plug in my phone to my computer and click on the Kodak Easy-Share icon and the photos automatically transfer. would it be the same process with this Intensify app?

I readily admit I only know very the basics about computers and most of what I know has been a figure-out-as-I-go-along sort of deal, and by asking questions here.

can anyone advise?

I am not sure about this app you asked about, I don't have it. I use the pre installed photo app on my Mac, iPhoto.

Does this app have a Mac and iOS compatible app? If it doesn't have an app for both OS, then I would think you'll have to connect your phone to the computer and manually import photos from the phone to the app. Maybe the website has a user guide online you can view, then see what it says about importing photos.

I didn't think you could delete the iPhoto app that came pre-installed? That is an Apple system app. For the most part, I like it, but I just take pictures...not big into editing. It works with your iPhone and your Mac, and everything syncs together. So if I take a picture with my phone, it automatically transfers it through iCloud to my Mac in iPhoto. If I am out during the day taking pictures, when I get home they are already sitting there on the Mac. It's found on my photo stream. It automatically saves a hard copy to the Mac. The Mac iPhoto app automatically creates "Event dates" and photos from photo stream are saved as a hard copy within that event. You really don't have to do anything, it does everything by itself.

About once a month I connect my iPhone to my Mac, then iPhoto opens and asks if I want to delete the pictures from my phone - I answer yes, because its saved to my Mac already AND I can still access them on the phone when I open photo stream. With one push of a button it deletes all of the pictures from the phone and frees that space again for me.

I think this iPhoto app is confusing for photo editing. Not sure f that is why you are looking for a different app to use? I still haven't really figured it out. The Apple Store offers free iPhoto classes, and I've been wanting to sign up and go. I guess I would use photoshop instead, for editing, but I don't really do alot of editing anyway.

Can you open the app store on the Mac, then click on purchases (you might have to sign in to app store if not already) then see if iPhoto is listed there to re-install? I'd at least have this on your Mac to make it easy on yourself to transfer pictures between your Mac and your phone (since they are both Apple). I really love that all my pictures are automatically saved to my Mac, and being able to view my pictures no matter what device I am on because all Apple devices have access to photo stream.

You can still download the other app, if you want. No problem having both on your computer, you'll just have to select one as being the default photo app. This way it knows what to open/use when importing photos. But...I doubt this other app will automatically transfer pictures from your phone to your mac like iPhoto does. However, it may be easier to edit photos than iPhoto app?

As for the Kodak pictures, regardless of iPhoto or another photo app, you'll need to connect that to your computer to export the pictures out - and you'll select whatever photo app you want...or just save them as a JPEG file in your photo folder in finder. If you were using iPhoto, you can set up to auto import into the iPhoto app. I am sure same set up can be done with other apps too. So no need to always save to photo folder first before importing into an app. But wanted to provide you with the option that you can save to the folder first, if you wanted.

Oh the other thing I like about iPhoto is that it always keeps the original. So if I edit one of the photos (if I could ever really figure out editing, I've only played around with it) I can still access the original.

thank you Lynnj, I didn't have an iPhone when I first got my Mac. that may be why I had a hard time transferring and organizing photos with the iPhoto program. I'm not big into photography, obviously. but I do like to be able to crop, enhance, enlarge ,etc. I'll look at it again . now that I have an iPhone, it may be what I need.

Okay, check iPhoto out in the app store, and let me know what you think. I am not big into editing either, and I can crop, enhance, and enlarge using that with no problem.

I could be wrong, but I thought that iPhoto came pre-installed on all Macs? It did on mine, but I have a 2011 Mac. Maybe before that date it wasn't. But I know that it is available as a download in the app store, just don't remember how much it costs. If it did come pre-installed on your Mac, you should see it listed in the purchased section (if you deleted it previously). From there you should be able to download it again for free.

Your photo app on your phone works seamlessly with it. I think there is also iPhoto for iOS...or there will be soon. But I don't edit on my phone, so all I need on the phone is the photo app that already there.

Apple is in process of making an upgrade to the iPhoto app, supposed to be available early 2015. I am not sure how the upgrade will make things easier...or harder? But this is one of the reasons why they now offer iCloud for photos with Yosemite and iOS8. I don't have the iCloud for photos yet, or at least havent activated it yet. Apparently all of your photos will now live in the cloud (under photos) so no matter what device you have you'll be able to access ALL of your photos.

Currently, photo stream has a limit as to how many photos can sit in there at any one given time. I think its 1,000, but don't quote me on that. I learned a trick that helps me to bypass that limit. I created shared photo albums. You are allowed 100 albums and each albums is allowed 1,000 pictures. Its all accessed through photo stream. So this basically allows me the ability to access all of my photos from my Mac, phone, and pad, and I don't get dinged for being over limit. I won't get into set up specifics now, but if interested, let me know.

This is one of the reasons why I havent activated the iCloud photo thing. I am not sure what this will do to my saved shared albums? I don't want to have to re-create those albums again, as I have everything grouped the way I like within each album. Holiday, kids, sporting events, pets, etc. This makes it easy for me to find what I am looking for, especially if I am out and showing someone something from my phone.

I just looked it up. Macs from 2011 came with iLife (which includes the iPhoto app) installed. So this is why I had it on mine. If your Mac is older than this, then you would need to purchase the app.

Awesome. Glad it was free I think it was free because, as you said, you had deleted it. I found this iPhoto tutorial on YouTube. I've not looked at this yet, so don't know what is included. But the length is 45 min, so it must include a lot. Don't worry about which version it is versus which iPhoto version you just downloaded. For the most part, each version acts the same way, and at this point you just need the overview of everything to get started. Copy/paste this into your browser ---http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk1DrQMiFpE

I just watched the video on the link I posted above. It's going to give you a good overview. I didn't care for the instructor, my opinion only, but I did learn a lot about the editing features and some other tricks. It didn't get into photo stream, so Google iPhoto photo strea to learn more. Or I can find something for you too and post it here. One caution, this video is old, he makes reference to photo stream only working in Lion and Mountain Lion. These are two previous OS. We are in Yosemite now, if you recently upgraded. Mavericks was the OS just before Yosemite. Photo stream works on all OS from Lion to Yosemite. Let me know how you make out with the video, and what other things you need help with. Also, all apps on Mac have HELP on the menu bar - on the left, help is located to the right of that list of items. You can also click on that to access a list of help topics about the App.

My ipad air came with iPhoto pre-loaded, lynnj. This app stores (?) and lets one access their photo steam/albums,etc. readily. It doesn't seem to me that the photos are stored within it... but I'm sure if I were to delete a photo from the camera roll, the iPhoto would not have the photo still there.

I use Paint and love it for so many things. The iphoto app does a beautiful job with touch-ups and skin, but does not provide sharp, pointed access. It seems to blue and smooth, but I can't get close enough for detail work.

Another issue is that I simply do not know how many pixels a photo is ... perhaps that information is somewhere and I just can't find it! Microsoft picture editor does a great job with everything but skin... forget the flaws in the skin!

I have edited with iPhoto, taken the same picture and opened it in Picasa, added cute stickers (queen crowns) borders and text to photos. That is fun!

Mochahoney... Paint is an installed program that is part of Microsoft Office and works with Windows. I do LOVE PAINT! It comes up under the start menu and is located along with Excel and Powerpoint in the programs menu using Windows systems. Picassa is an app that can probably also be accessed by computer (not sure about this since I have never tried on the computer). I have been using Picasa on iPhone and iPad. HTH!

FYI... in iPhone I first started downloading lots of apps for photo editing and tried them then chose the couple that seemed most useful... Picasa and "Be Funky." No PAINT program exists, to my limited knowledge, for iPhone/iPad.

Microsoft picture editor does a great job with everything but skin... forget the flaws in the skin!

I have edited with iPhoto, taken the same picture and opened it in Picasa, added cute stickers (queen crowns) borders and text to photos. That is fun!

I don't have iPhoto on my iPhone or iPad. I have ipad 4 with retina, and iPhone 5, both didn't come with iPhoto pre-installed. I think it was the next iPad and iPhone released that came with iPhoto pre-installed. But, that said, I would think iOS version is similar to Mac version. Regarding deleting photos....if you open iPhoto and you see in either EVENTS or PHOTOS the photos on your camera roll, then that means they have now been synced with iphoto. Those photos might be grouped, for example all the photos you took in one day might be grouped in iPhoto by date. It will probably say photo stream photos, then date. Since they are synced in iPhoto, you can now delete them from camera roll. Test it - take a picture as a test. Wait for you to see it in iPhoto. Then delete from camera roll. This is how it works on the Mac with iPhoto, I'd be curious to know if it works the same way with iOS iPhoto. If this doesn't work, then you probably have to connect phone and pad to iTunes through the computer, then turn on auto sync on both devices through itunes.

On 12/23/2014 Mochahoney said:
thank you Lynnj. I'll watch the video after Christmas. at 45 minutes long it might be too much for my brain which is already on overload right now, trying to get ready for family visiting for Christmas . so far I'm liking iPhoto this time. and I like that my photos are automatically available on iCloud so I don't have to manually transfer them. again, thank you so much for your help. you and dooBdoo are my new go-to Mac techs . ( hope you don't mind).

Yea, I can relate to how crazy it is right now getting ready for the big day. Merry Christmas to you. For me, the 45 min went by pretty quickly. There were some places where the instructor was answering questions from students attending the web course live as it was recording, that made things a little slow. The students, I guess, were using instant message, and instructor was reading aloud and answering the questions. But for the most part, he was showing and demonstrating different things in iPhoto and explaining as he went along. It was very quick, and a few places I needed to rewind to see that section again. Let me know how it goes for you.
