Just got a new HP laptop with Windows 8.1. Is it impossible to use Gmail with this computer?

I don't want to use Microsoft's default e-mail program as I've used Gmail for years.

How do I get a Gmail icon on my new computer so I can check/send e-mail?

You need to download the Chrome browser https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/

In the browser you will find an app launcher in the left corner. It will have an app for Gmail.

You can use any browser, even IE, to access Gmail. Just go to mail.google.com and make a bookmark or shortcut.

Can't you just use it through the Google toolbar? That way you can use it with other browsers too.
