Of course there is nothing for them to do. It's past the warranty. They could be nice and send you a new adapter but, there is no obligation on their part.

QVC is only involved during the first 30 days and that's only for the customer to return the item. If you choose not to buy another Dell or shop with QVC, that's you prerogative. But as it stands right now, neither company has done anything wrong.

When I was a kid, we had a pool in our back yard. The pool came with a 10 year warranty. At 10 years and 2 months the front wall of the pool gave way. No one in my family even considered calling the pool company for restitution.

A warranty is a warranty. Yes, they can certainly be nice and extend a courtesy to you after the warranty, but they are not obligated to.

I used to be in the habit of sitting using my laptop on my lap with it plugged in. I ruined the charger doing this - had to have it replaced to the tune of about $300 - and learned to NOT do that anymore. Now when a computer is plugged in at our house it is sitting quietly unused. If I NEED to use a computer while one is charging (rarely) I can use our desktop or at least put the laptop on a table so I am not giggling it around while it is plugged in.

As for the deal with the warranty - they are totally within their rights here.Have it serviced - learn the lesson.

An adapter is the easiest thing to replace. You should feel lucky that this is your only problem with the computer. You could have hard drive failures or something else. You can buy an adapter at best buy or radio shack. Probably $30-$50 bucks? Write down and take your dell computer specs with you so the associate can help you find am adapter that will work with your computer.

You have to buy an adapter from a vendor you trust like Dell or Best Buy. You have to be concerned about electric shock.

I agree. I would stay away from generic adapters, not to mention other 'parts'. I tend to stick with OEM stuff for my computers, cameras, etc. I've heard horror stories about generic adapters and just general stories about other non-OEM parts being pretty much worthless (which, I suppose, is why they garner such low prices. ha!).
