There are so many places to download MP3 files, don't need I-Tunes. Also works with Audible.com to download books. Great for walking.

I've never had an issue with Non Apple except not paying so much. The money I saved on the Clip Zip I spend on better earphones.

I'm looking for opinions on the best mp3 or Ipod for the money. My price point is no greater than $150. I would like to be able to down load some music I already own on CD's and also purchase music and books to listen to. I would also like access to radio. Also, if it has a fitness app that's great too. I'm truly confused about Apple. So if anyone has experience with Itunes and how it works and what it costs that info would be great too. Thanks to all in advance for any help.

Scorpios, have a look at the iPod nano. They come with FM radios now. The next smallest is the iPod shuffle but it doesn't hold much and I don't think it has a radio. You can load your own music through your computer on iTunes and you can buy music from the music store on itunes as well. I use an iTunes card to pay for my purchases. You can buy these almost anywhere ... Walmart, the grocery store, electronic stores, etc. You tube is your friend here. Go watch a couple of videos about how to load music. Buy a a capability bigger than you think you need. You can make playlists of your favorite groupings of music like 'Christmas', 'exercise', easy listening', etc. You will be surprised at how quickly you fill it up. Give it a try. It will open up a whole new world for you. Good luck! LM

if you CDs already you can load all of them into itunes and then onto your ipod or other apple device.

You can buy songs from itunes or amazon and they will load onto Itunes.

go to the Apple site for info on the different iPods

you can get by with 16gb, I have 3500 songs that equal 20 gb that I keep on my hard drive, I make a playlist to go on my iphone.

The I-Pod Nano is a great suggestion. My sister has one and she ADORES it.

I am a Non-Apple person (even though I started computing on an Apple II Plus.) I don't like I-Tunes either. So I have a Sansa Clip Zip. It's AWESOME and it's not expensive. It comes in various colors and you can clip it to your clothes so use it while walking or exercising. But it has a screen (the old Clips only scrolled your titles.) Battery life isn't bad, either.

I would think about space. My first iPod was the Nano and I filled that up pretty quickly. I got an iPod Touch and there is more room than I'll ever need. I would recommend the Touch in a mid gb size range.

When my Sansa MP3 player gave out I got a 32gb iPod Touch. Was just getting it for Music but glad I did. I use it for so much more. I keep a lot of Notes on it. Notes for Shopping lists, sizes like printer ink & Air filter sizes, (I love making lists). And I have my contacts on it. Oh, and books. I can read while I'm waiting places like the pharmacy or Dr.

Also now I have a camera on me all the time. ps.....don't get the 16gb model. The 32gb & above have 2 cameras, 16 only had 1. And there are some other differences too. 32 comes in colors.

Before it was delivered I spent 3 days ripping my music CDs to my Dell computer. So I was all ready to go when it arrived.

Oh, I guess all that other stuff might not mean much to most people but I don't have a cell phone at all. So I didn't have a camera, etc.

It is kind of cool all the stuff you can do on the Touch. It's basically like an iPhone, but without the phone.

I've gone online with it and checked emails before, but I do prefer to do that stuff on a computer so I don't do it much. I don't have a smart phone (don't need one, actually), so it was like a really new toy when I first got it.

I believe mine is 32gb also. That's probably plenty of space for just about anybody.

I would definitely expect Target and Best Buy to have some GREAT sales on iPods if you wait 'till a little closer to the holiday season. They are now less popular than other "i" equipment, so the secondary markets will be selling them off. For music storage, they can't be beat.

To the OP, You may want to install iTunes software, and start importing your music. The process can take a little time. You then had an idea what size product you want to buy. I would buy a 32GB touch.

The 32 gig ipod touch is 250 dollars though, and the OP said she doesn't want to spend more than 150.

I think since you are brand new to portable mp3 players I'd get the ipod shuffle. It's only 50 dollars, it hold 2 gigs of music. It doesn't have a radio and it doesn't run apps but it's very small and portable, it clips to your clothes, it has a smaller price point and it works great. You can play music, audio books and podcasts on it.

The next up would be the ipod nano which does have radio but it's 3x the price at 150 dollars.

If all you want is music, podcasts and audio books those are your best cheapest options.
