Last I heard there were major problems with that update. I wouldn't update until you hear they've fixed the problems.

You can back up your iPhone to your computer via iTunes or iCloud. Back up with iTunes: Plug your iPhone into your computer with the USB cable and launch the iTunes application. Click on "iPhone" and navigate to the "Summary" tab. Select "This computer" under the "Automatically Backup" option. Click on "Backup Now" and your iPhone's contents will be copied to your computer. Wait until the status bar says that the backup is complete, click the eject button and unplug your iPhone. The iTunes backup can be loaded onto a new or reformatted iPhone, but it cannot be viewed on a computer. Back up with iCloud: Enable iCloud by opening the Settings menu on your iPhone. Tap "iCloud" and log into your account. Scroll to the bottom of the iCloud menu and tap "Storage and Backup." Switch on iCloud Backup. Your iPhone will need to be connected to Wi-Fi and plugged into a power source before it will begin the automatic backup process. Your iCloud account will store a copy of your iPhone's data, including SMS messages, which can be restored onto a reformatted or new iPhone. HTH

Well, just set aside some time for looking at all those photos...just like you would for flipping through a photo album in the old days.....and as you come across one you want to keep, follow these instructions:

http://www.askdavetaylor.com/save_photos_from_text_messages_on_an_iphone/

Then, back those photos up to your computer using iTunes. Burn the ones you absolutely DO NOT want to lose to CD or some other back up system.

Just yesterday my very best friend was showing me some pictures of her grandchildren taken on her Samsung phone. I casually asked if she had those backed up since I know they don't take traditional film pictures anymore. She said, "they're on my phone -- why would I need to back them up".

Sigh.

Back up your pictures! I'll say that again. Back up your pictures!!!

Many of today's children will never have pictures of their youth because their parents have not saved pictures taken on digital devices and have never printed any pictures of their children while they were growing up.

I think you eventually have to get rid of those texts on the phone anyway. On my Verizon android devices I think the max number of texts for each person was 200. If there were more the older ones must have been automatically deleted.

Does your phone work a lot slower than it did when it was new? One reason is all those text messages. I was told they take up space and slow you down. Once I delete them my phone worked almost like new again.

I want to repeat that I have Android phones and my carrier is Verizon. Your situation may be different.

I TOTALLY AGREE that if you want to keep your pictures you should put them on the camera roll AND back up the camera roll regularly to another device. Clear most pics out of your phone too because they take up a lot of space and slow it down. There's a lot of cloud storage available where you can keep photos to access anytime you want without storing them on the actual phone. And then you can access them from any device. You can even use Facebook and set it up with privacy settings so nobody but you can access them. I'm sure others in this forum can suggest something else too.

One neat feature of iOS 8 is that you can see all the pictures sent to you (and the ones you have sent to them) from particular people. To see them, click on the Details button in the top right corner of the Message window.

BUT.....you have to upgrade to iOS 8 to see those consolidated in one place.

Just to add something to the good advice already posted: You might want to try launching iTunes on your computer, plugging your iPhone into the computer, and see if you can download iOS that way. As stressed before: be SURE you ALWAYS have a good backup before downloading new software.

In some cases, that type of installation solves the storage problem. (You also could temporarily remove a few things, like apps, and add them back in after the update. If you haven't already done so, look in the General settings and see the "Usage," and you'll get a good idea of what's taking up storage. Also, a simple sync and backup with iTunes on the computer will remove a big chunck of storage taken up by the "Diagnostics & Usage" data.)

hth!

A third party software program like iExplorer is the easiest way, but there are a few ways to do it. Click here for a Google search that will bring up several results. I checked them and the second and third seem to be very helpful.

From the text screen, click on edit. I don't have my phone in front of me, but I think it's in the upper right corner of the screen. Once you click edit, a little empty circle will appear to the left of the screen, to the left of the name or phone number. Just tap in the circle each text you want to delete. You can do multiples at once. Once you've tapped on all the texts you want to delete, then click on delete. Again, that option will be on the top right of the screen I think.

So can someone tell me where to find my Camera Roll? It vanished into the sunset. I did the download on the first update, and then the second. Somewhere in there I lost the Camera Roll. Then I read here that Camera Roll had been reinstated. So where do I get mine, please?

DH's phone will not do the 2 upgrade, which he needs, because he has too many programs on it. His family thinks he needs all this music, which he hates, and they have put tons of apps on his phone taking up space. We're going to delete those and get back to the real world. DH is 95, and misses Glenn Miller., Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw. (Me, too!)

I just went thru my texts and saved 78 photos to my desktop.

NOW, how do I get rid of the texts??? There's not a quick, easy way to delete what's already on my phone. This doesn't seem to be a simple app that I can dump....

TIA!!

from yr text screen just swipe to the left and a red delete icon should appear

It vanished into the sunset. I did the download on the first update, and then the second. Somewhere in there I lost the Camera Roll. Then I read here that Camera Roll had been reinstated. So where do I get mine, please?

DH's phone will not do the 2 upgrade, which he needs, because he has too many programs on it. His family thinks he needs all this music, which he hates, and they have put tons of apps on his phone taking up space. We're going to delete those and get back to the real world. DH is 95, and misses Glenn Miller., Tommy Dorsey, Artie Shaw. (Me, too!)

I am not sure but I dont think the camera roll update has been issued yet.

For you husbands phone you need to delete the apps not only on the phone but also in itunes because when you back up your phone next time they will be restored.

Do you know how to connect your phone to your computer and delete apps then back up?

http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-delete-unwanted-ios-apps-from-itunes/
