Last night I looked at my contacts on my phone and noticed that There were photos there. Then I realized that they were my Facebook friends. For some reason all my FB friends were moved over onto my phone. A whole lot of people I did not want in my contacts list on my phone. It took me about an hour to delete all the ones I didn't want on there. Geez - people from HS and old jobs that I barely remember. Anyone know why this happened ?

HH I can definitely commiserate! This drives me insane too.

Did you get a new phone or reset your phone and go through a new set-up to add your email accounts, etc? I notice that when you add different accounts/apps there is often a little check box that is selected by default and it says something like, "Do you want to add your Facebook contacts?" Or something like that. I know, we should be careful. But these things are very sneaky!!

Annoying to me because if I want to call or text someone I don't want to use their Facebook account! If I want to Facebook message them I'll use Facebook! And all these multiple accounts for one person gets very confusing. In some cases I have 5 different "people" that are all the same person but from different accounts. If I enter a name I get choices between the same phone numbers. Geez, I just need one. I've tried to merge the accounts but it's really a mess anyway.

I don't understand who this is helpful to and if anyone else knows how to reverse this that would be GREAT!

somewhere during the set up process you are asked if you want to add your facebook contacts, I think when you add the Fbk add to your phone.

Facebook is somewhat insidious that way, I decided not to use the app on my phone.

If it were me I would do this

delete the email account and Facebook apps from my phone and reinstall

KJPA - I know it was late last night and it took me about an hour to delete all the ones I did not want on my phone. I recently downloaded Instagram app so I am thinking that was the culprit, as it is on both my phone and my computer. BTW - I only downloaded it to my computer but that also bluetoothed over to my phone AND to the computer on the car - which DH was none too happy about. I sure hope all those "friends" are not loaded into the car now.

I don't know what kind of phone and operating system you have, so it's hard to help. This is not a Bluetooth thing, this is a Facebook App issue.

Here's how to prevent this from happening with an iPhone with iOS 7. Not sure if it works on 8 yet and I have no idea if this happens with Android phones at all or how to fix it if it does.

1. Open Settings.

2. Tap the Facebook app in the listing. (You will probably need to scroll to find it.)

3. Verify that Contacts is not set to green under "Allow these apps to use your account." If Contacts is set to green, tap the white circle to slide it over and the oval will turn white. This means Contacts will not be allowed to communicate with Facebook.

I just discovered that after I downloaded the new IOS update on my IPhone, all of my pictures are gone from what used to be the "camera roll." Now you have to go to "photos, where they are all grouped. I liked being able to scroll through photos, you can't do that anymore. I suppose if you have 1000 photos, this could be easier, change is always painful!

This happened to me too - only worse! DS helped me set up my new phone a few months ago. I only wanted my family and a few close friends as my contacts. EVERYONE on my e-mail list showed up - and that's a lot of people (work, organizations, etc.) So he and I went through my phone and deleted them - on my phone. Then I went to my computer to send an important e-mail. My whole e-mail list was GONE! Luckily I found a Yahoo! "recently deleted" category, but I had to add each one separately. All of my categories were gone too. I still don't have those back. It's one of those things I have to get around to. Right now I'm just composing and adding each recipient individually! Not happy.

If anyone has any advice, I'll take it!

I also only want the people on my contacts that I call. I have contacts on email, then also contacts on the phone section (if that makes sense) I tried deleting, but it took them off both.

Exactly! I want my email contacts in my email, phone contacts in my phone contacts list, etc. But they are all jumbled together in "Contacts" and hard to go through!

My husband had this problem and I was able to fix it using the following directions. The link for the entire article follows. I hope it works for all of you. The directions for the Android phones are at the end of this quote:

"In the iPhone’s settings, scroll down to the Facebook entry and touch to open it.

In the Facebook settings, there are sliders to turn on or off various Facebook’s interactions with your iPhone, including calendars and contacts.

I turned off the slider for contacts, but I left the one for calendars turned on, as it entered birthday information for all my Facebook friends who’ve filled in their birth date on their profiles.

Having those birthdays on my phone’s calendar is useful to me. If it bothers you, simply move the slider for Calendars to the off position in the Facebook settings.

Android users can likewise open settings and scroll down to Facebook and then turning off contacts syncing."

This is the link where I got the directions:

http://www.dallasnews.com/business/columnists/jim-rossman/20130718-facebook-cluttering-your-phone-contacts-heres-how-to-delete-them.ece
