I broke my Keyboard Kindle a few months ago and now...

I'm wanting to just buy a basic, simple Kindle.

Question: it doesn't use a plug to recharge like the Kindle Keyboard did, but a USB connection to a computer.

Does anyone have experience with USB stuff? I'm not technically savvy, and my BIL could help me learn this -- he's a computer WHIZ.

The Kindle Keyboard is no longer made and I really can't afford a Paperwhite.

I'd really appreciate any reassurance and/or advice . Thanks!

When I just looked a couple days ago the Paperwhite was the only e-ink kindle currently being sold new by Amazon. As far as your question on charging using USB, it's simple, just use a USB wall charger. I used the one for my ipad for ages with all my USB charged devices including my paperwhite and recently I upgraded to a 40w 5 slot USB wall charger so I can charge all my devices at once.

It took quite a bit of looking but I did find it. I may just wait a couple of months and get a Paperwhite.

I'd give anything to get a Kindle Keyboard, sigh.

Love my Kindle Keyboard! I've never been tempted to get a ""new improved"" model! DH bought it for me about 4 or 5 years ago for Valentine's Day.

I'm on my fifth Kindle keyboard. Bought the original and it became defective and they have continued to replace the defective ones with refurbs. It's rather annoying setting up a new Kindle every time one decides to die. Each time they gave me a trade-in amount, but if the current one goes bad, I'm just going to buy a new one. Refurbs are refurbs.

Amazon releases the new Kindles in the Fall, usually announces October, ship November if I remember. If you can hold out, you may be able to get a deal on the current Paperwhite if they upgrade it.

DH has a Kindle Keyboard..I have one and we have an extra just in case...I don't use mine that much anymore now that I have an iPad Air...and iPod Touch..but it comes in handy when I want to read outside..no glare...and I actually think when I'm reading for a long time that its easier on the eyes...DW

I am on my third Kindle keyboard and I love it. The first two were each replaced by Amazon for free because each reached a point where they would not hold a charge. You might want to check pawn shops to buy one. However, my son just bought a Paperwhite and it is amazing because the screen is so bright. I am going to ask for one for Christmas.

Love my grandkids, I have a Kindle Keyboard also. If mine broke I would definitely look on Amazon for a refurbished one.

Recently I had to charge my Kindle keyboard and it would not charge. I called Amazon CS and the rep ordered a new charger for me at no cost. Amazon is wonderful to work with. I received it in two days (Prime) and everything is charging well now.

Love my grandkids, I also have a Kindle Keyboard and if I broke mine, I would not hesitate to get a refurbished one from Amazon

I had a Kindle keyboard and just upgraded to the Paperwhite. I love it! It's a lot lighter than the Keyboard simply because it doesn't have the keyboard. I love the light, too. I thought it would bug me to have to charge the Kindle by the computer, too, but it's fine.

The newer Kindles aren't bad but the Keyboard has speakers and the new Basic and Paperwhite (similar to the Keyboard) do NOT. I think that was an error in design as I love audiobooks on my kindle.

You could try the Paperwhite, which is nice as it has a built-in cover and light and it is a touch screen, which is a heck of a lot nicer than the page-buttons. The on screen keyboards are much better than I imagined they'd be.

The refurbished Keyboards are available and have the advantage of the 3G and the speaker built in. I probably would get one if I already had the cover for it because the Paperwhite (except for the speaker) is a nicer unit.

You can use the same power cord and plug from the keyboard kindle with a new paperwhite.

If you look at power cord you are using now for the keyboard kindle it has a usb plug that you can pull out of the wall plug and attach to a computer.

I sent my keyboard kindle to powerbookmedic.com and had a broken screen replaced for 80.00 but I bought a paperwhite before I did that. For me it was worth it but I don't think it would be worth it for everybody.

I have both and they Kindle Paperwhite is much easier for me to use. The letters and numbers were rubbing off the keys of my keyboard, so I had to guess at some of them. Good thing it's a standard QWERTY keyboard! It takes a little getting used to and sometimes I turn a page when I don't mean to just because a finger slips, but it's easy enough to go back. It's much better than the Keyboard version.

The Paperwhite comes with the USB cable but NOT a wall plug you use to charge from a wall outlet. That shouldn't be an issue if you had the Keyboard version, as you can use the wall plug from that, which is what I did. I have wall plugs all over from my various other devices, and show no loyalty. My iPhone and Android tablet have all been charged from the plug from my Amazon Kindle Keyboard and vice versa.

I think I'll just save up and get a Paperwhite. I'm very leery of a refurbished Keyboard model. What if it's not good? I'm guess I'd have recourse with Amazon.

So many of your posts are like ads for Amazon.Some people get paid for doing that kind of links to Amazon..........hmmmmmmm
