Thanks everyone for the Nomorobo and CPR Call Blocker V202 suggestions. Checking into those this afternoon. How about cell phones? We're starting to get those now. Can either be used on a land line and a cell together?

This morning my son answered the phone and it was a guy w/ an accent saying he was from Microsoft. The only thing my son had done before I got a hold of the phone was pull up the event vwr and tell him how many administrative events there were. I told the guy I wasn't having problems with my computer and hung up on him. I am currently doing a full scan of my computer. Should I be concerned or did I stop the situation before anything fraudulent could happen??? I have now made sure that my son knows to hang up on any call like this if he hasn't contacted the company previously.

If really the only thing your son did was bring up the event viewer and he didn't bring up a browser and initiate or allow a connection of any kind, I don't think you have anything to worry about.

We get these calls every single day. Edgar, John, Josh, Brian, Sidney, Charles, Shawn, etc. ( write the names down even though it sounds like the same guy).

Yesterday, I asked him to call back when my mommy comes home. The other day I said I didn't live there and nobody was home. Then, I told him to call back when daddy gets back. On and on.

They are reading from a script. This morning's call, I said I was the cleaning lady and am not allowed to talk to strangers and to call back at 4 pm. So far, no call. I am disappointed.

Just a heads up in case - Microsoft NEVER calls. It's just not the way they operate....

LOL - These calls are probably from Mumbai - Love the names......

I got the same call this week but the guy said he was from Windows. I didn't have time to mess with him - I just hung up. But ordinarily I would have told him I didn't have a computer, I have Apple - not Microsoft, I don't have Windows, etc. etc. Or just play dumb and tie him up on the phone. Even give the call to my 7 yr old grandson.

They have been calling her almost daily. I let the answering machine pick up. I'm not answering because I figure they will keep calling if I answer the phone. Eventually with them getting our machine they will give up. LOL!!! They talked about this on the news. A lady gave them her credit card number but the bank knew it was a scam & denied the charge. She had to have Computer Geeks fix her computer. I just cannot believe people fall for these things. My sister almost did. She emailed me about it & I told her it was a scam & to not ever give remote access to anyone besides my DH that does that to fix her computer problems. Also to never give out her credit card #. She was really freaking out thinking there was something wrong with her computer. When they call they have you bring up a screen that shows errors to make you think there is a problem. The Computer Geeks said the page they have you bring up that shows errors is normal & not to worry about it. Microsoft would never call you saying you are having computer problems.

DH and I only use our iPhones (Apple). Since then we've never gotten a spam call or any kind of call like that. We moved three years ago and never got around to getting a land line and discovered that we operate just great with our cell phones and no one calls trying to sell us something (we're also on the ""do not call"" National List).... It's great!

Got my call today.... ON MY CELL PHONE. I don't give out this number readily so when I got the call I played along. I had quite a fun time taking this gal round and round. She finally gave up and hopefully I will not hear from her (them) again. Long story short, nothing she asked me to do I could find. I kept her waiting finding my glasses. Then I told her I misplaced my computer. Then when I found both of them I described my computer as some sort of tablet that had a dead battery. I asked her if she sold batteries and I asked if they came in color since red was my favorite. I DOUBT SHE WILL EVER CALL AGAIN. HAPPY DAY, WHAT FUN.
