On 8/18/2014 adoreqvc said:
Some HP printers will not work with re manufactured or generic cartridges.

I have an HP eprint wireless printer and it will not take anything but genuine HP ink cartridges.

Years ago my other older printers took cartridges I refilled with a refill ink kit with no problems, as well as generic and re-manufactured cartridges.

Today these sophisticated newer technology e printers have software embedded inside which auto tells them if the cartridges being installed are genuine HP cartridges or not.

That is happening with more printers. I looked at Amazon.com for generic ink for my Canon and there isn't any. There are cartridges for other Canon models but not mine.

I don't print much but when I do, I use the fast or draft mode. It uses a LOT less ink and the quality is fine. If I am sending an important document, I'll use the regular setting. You can find the setting within the print dialog box that shows up when you print. I also turn my printer off when not in use. I find the ink doesn't dry out out when I do that.

First, I hope this is the correct forum to ask a question.

Have any of you bought replacement (remanufactured) ink cartridges? If so, what's your experience been? Good, bad, indifferent? Buying brand new cartridges would cost almost as much as a new printer. We were at Costco today and 3 color and 3 black printer (564XL for my HP printer) cartridges would cost over $100 Terrible. Anyway, I saw an on-line store, LD Products that sells the remanufactured cartridges and their prices and guarantee are very good. A set of 9 for this printer is $58.41. No shipping because it's over $50. Have any of you bought from this store? Can you suggest a reliable on-line store from which to buy?

TIA.

Yep. I haven't had mush luck with them or with refilling my own cartridges. When it was time to replace my all in one I picked one with good prices on cartridges, and also, with all the different colored cartridges. Cheaper that way. I rarely use anything but black. HP have very expensive cartridges. But $100 for 6 cartridges is not bad at all. That is between $15 and $20 per cartridge, and XL at that. I used to pay at least twice that much.

I buy mine on EBay. Never had any problems with them. I just bought a 20 pk color/black for $30 to split with my MIL since she has the same printer. Bought a 12 pk color & 4 pk black for DH for $17. Before you buy a new printer make sure you can buy remanufactured cartridges. I read some companies are going to put chips in their printers so they know if you are not using their cartridges. Don't know if this is something they are already doing are going to do. I only buy printers that use individual cartridges.

We have used LD cartridges for about 7 yrs now on HP and Lexmark Printers with no problems at all. If a cartridge for some reason doesn't work, they will exchange with no problem. All these cartridges from manufacturer or replace have digital coding and time date and sometimes the printer will refuse to accept them. LD is reasonable in price. Good Luck to you.

I have purchased both color and black ones from Office Max. The black one worked but the color one did not at all. I followed all the tips to try to help (rubbing the metallic end with an eraser, etc) but apparently sometimes the remanufactured cartridges have electronic problems. I returned it for a new one and it appears to be okay.

Make sure you can exchange or return wherever you purchase from.

I have never had any problem with them. However, the last time I went to get them filled at our nearby Office Max/Office Depot, they told me they were not refilling them anymore due to too many problems. They also told me that the Walgreen store nearby was not refilling them anymore either. I ended up ordering some from eBay. They work fine for us.

When my full manufacturers ink tanks run dry I always replace them with a generic brand. I've bought them from several different online retailers and I have not had a printing or a printer problem with any of them. I am talking "individual ink tanks" not a 3 color cartridge and a black a white cartridge.

I bought 10 ink tanks for my 5 color printer a couple months back from a company that sells generic ink for my Canon All in One. Total cost was under $35 delivered. Now were I to purchase genuine Canon Ink Tanks? Probably cost me that much for just a couple tanks.

Never have cared about the "warranty will be voided" because to me printers are an expendable peripheral these days. Just replacing one set of 5 tanks saves me enough money to buy a new printer.

Before I change an ink tank I print a color copy of a photo in the best print setting with glossy photo paper. After replacing the tank I do the same after printing a few smaller copies to make sure the ink is completely changed. Then I print a the same photo with the same settings using the same type of paper and compare the 2 of them. If there is a difference it is not discernible to my wife or myself.

Have yet to have a printer quit on me and I go way back to filling my own 3 color and black and white cartridges myself with generic ink and syringe. Messy, but cheap and had the same results with the printing and no printer failure.

Before I bought my new printer (an Epson XP 310) I shopped for cheap but well reviewed ink. I discovered that the generic Epson 200XL cartridges were cheap and very well reviewed so then I found a printer that used those cartridges. My printer tells me I'm using a generic cartridge and asks if I want to continue and I do and it works fine.

On 8/17/2014 Kjelle said: Be sure not to do this while your warranty is still on.It will void the warranty. I shop around each time and get the best deal I can on original manufacturer's products.

With the relatively low price of printers (mine cost $59) and the relatively high price of manufacturer inkjet cartridges (typically $15-$20+ each) and compared to the low cost of many generic inkjet cartridges (as low as $1 each) the cost savings offset any risk to the warranty pretty quickly. I've saved enough money from using generic ink to replace the printer if need be with no trouble and still come out ahead. Even at $15 each cartridge a printer that uses four cartridges would cost $60 to replace the cartridges once. The generic ink I bought costs about a dollar each cartridge so I'm spending about $4 instead of $60 to change the ink and that's a $56 savings each time I replace the ink for a printer that only cost $59 brand new. Because of that, I'm not overly worried about voiding the warranty. After one set of generic cartridges you've pretty much broken even and every dollar saved after that is pure profit.
