I recently purchased the prepaid TracFone TS from the other channel. During the presentations it was said that you can transfer your existing number from any other carrier.

I was shocked when I read the instructions that I can be without service for UP TO SEVEN DAYS while they transfer the number ! ! ! ! I don't have a land line at home and my cell is the only way to reach me. One of my children doesn't live at home and the other drives a lot between his job and school. I need to be reachable 24/7.

Being without cell phone service for up to seven days is not an option for me and I am considering returning the phone for this reason. However, I realize that they may need to give the worst-case scenario. If you have transferred your number to another phone before, can you tell me how long you were without service?

I wonder if it takes longer if you are switching between carriers? The TracFone is with ATT/TMobile, and my current service is with TMobile, but it's not a TracFone. Since ATT and TMobile have merged, there have been lots of problems in my area.
