DH has Iphone, 2 Ipods, & laptop. Reasons to get IPad or IPad mini?

What are some reasons for an IPad or mini IPad?

I think he may be intrigued my Kindle Fire HD. He picked up an android tablet. It's not user friendly & will be returned.

We were trying to think of why he'd "need" an IPad. LOL! we know it's not "needed" really.

I haven't used my laptop since I got my iPad 4 years ago. I'm thoroughly invested into the IOS app store so I don't see the point of kindle fire. I read books on my kindle paperwhite though.

DH has an iPod, 2 Kindles & 2 laptops. I have an iPad & he has never bothered using it. We also have a desktop computer. I mostly use the iPad at night while I'm kicked back in the recliner watching TV. We also take it when we travel. I think people just love all their gadgets.

An iPad or mini is exactly like an iPhone, without the phone part and a bigger screen. I have the iPhone, iPad, and Macbook Air. Oh, and an iPod too. I use them all differently for different times.

The iPod stays connected to my Bose located in the kitchen. Technically, all music on the iPod is synced through the phone, pad, and Mac, and I could technically play the music through any of those or connect directly or through bluetooth or something else. But I had the iPod for years and it still works. So I just leave it connected to the back of the Bose and use that to play music from my library when not listening to the radio.

The phone I use when I am out and about, and for the phone part obviously.

The pad I use when I am on the couch or want to read in bed. But its mainly used for checking email, Facebook, reading, and surfing the web. I don't, and couldn't use this, for heavy computing.

The Mac computer is used for heavy computing. If I am doing spreadsheets or plan on something that requires heavy typing, etc. But I also use it for email, Facebook, surfing the web too. Also, the Mac computer is my central device, and have a hard backup of everything on it. I also have backups in the cloud too, but this serves as a second backup centrally. Because I have the iPad, I can go a week or longer without using the Mac. I have a company owned PC (HP) for work that I use during the week.

If/when I travel, I decide if I will take iPad or Mac with me. I don't usually take both. 95% of the time I am fine with the iPad, because I don't tend to do heavy computing if not for business travel. But as I said before I have a work PC for that stuff. My Documents are all synced for the most part, so if i needed quick access to a document from my mac I could access on my pad, or vice versa.

Android, Windows, and Apple don't easily sync together. So my suggestion for DH is to pick what type of operating system he likes (Android/Windows, or Apple) then get devices that stay in the operating system stream. As you can see I am all Apple, so with a click of a button everything I have easily syncs together.

DH is very comfortable with Apple. That's why it was a huge mistake to have picked up the android tablet. I'm used to my Kindle and trying to work the android tablet was frustrating for both of us.

His laptop is a 17" Compact Presario. It's great for all his ITunes more than 10,000 songs. He uses the Ipods on the Harley. He uses the Iphone of course as a phone, also for music when he gets to sit at his desk at work. He just added ITunes radio.

We love listening to Pandora on my Kindle when we aren't using my Ipod on the patio. He doesn't want a Kindle. But DS wants him to try Spotify (sp?) for additional music.

Sounds like he has a lot of music as my DH does. He has so much music on his laptop. Good think it has 1 TB hard drive. He gets a lot from You Tube. He hates iTunes for some reason. He also has well over 500 cds. He likes a lot of music I don't care for. When we travel I have to make sure there is some music I want to listen to. He still has lots of Albums he needs to get rid of. I made him get rid of all his 8 track tapes long ago & finally all his cassette tapes. Now if I can get him to get rid of some of his electronic equipment he does not need.

Pandora and Spotify are both apps, which are also both available for Apple/Android. So he could download the app to whichever device, and listen to music through that on whatever type of device he has.

Mine has 5 huge boxes of albums in the closet! lol He will never get rid of. We bought a turntable but we haven't used it for a long time.

I don't think there are any 8 tracks or cassettes left (except my Cinnamon Bear cassettes).

I sold hundreds of 45s in a garage sale years ago. I put all my CDs (70s, Motown & Christmas) then donated all the CDs.

We also have Sirius radio in our home and his van.

Good to know. I didn't think Apple would allow anything but Apple products.

I've been called a "techno geek" for decades now but I have no desire to "hoard" things that do pretty much the same things. My preference if I want to spend money on electronic gadgets is to spend it on different types of technological devices.

Sure they do. Just need to go to the app store and download the app. I guess you go to Google store for the other devices? I don't know cause I don't own them. I am sure they have some type of place you go to download apps, just don't know the official name they call it, LOL.

Once the app is downloaded, set up an account. If he uses the same account information on all devices, everything will sync together.

I have an iPhone and an iPad. If I'm home and sitting down, my iPad is usually in my lap. I use it all the time. I also have an iMac, which I adore. Our laptop sits in a cabinet and hasn't been used since I bought my first iPad, the day they first came out.

I love that my phone, iPad and Mac are all on the same platform. If I take a picture or send a text, it shows up on all of them.

I have a full size I pad and a mini kindle. I use the I pad for almost everything.,I never even touch my laptop. I don't use my smart phone except for,texting and calling. As far as the iPods, you can listen to music on the iPad but it is not as portable. You can do anything on a tablet, it can substitute for everything other than texting, phoning and very portable,music. My I pad is my favorite device, my Kindle my second favorite.

Mary, If your DH has an iPhone, I would buy an iPad Air or a iPad mini. That would be the best way to go.

I have an iPad4, two Android tablets, and a smartphone. I consider myself an droid girl. I did not buy an iPhone, because the display is just too small for me to see comfortably.

Agree, I love the sync between everything also. I am so excited for iOS8 and Yosemite to both be offered in the fall, and then with that the opportunity between everything is going to be so much greater. The ability to take calls on the Mac alone is an interesting feature to me, especially since we won't need some 3rd party software enabled. I don't carry my phone with me all through the house. Which is one of the reasons I like the text message sync feature available now so much. Doesn't matter what I am using at the time, or what is closest. I can read and reply with anything.

I've also heard that the Apple TV will be enabled with the continuity feature too this fall. I have that attached to my main TV, and will be very interested in seeing how that comes into play with all of the other devices. Currently I can stream anything to the TV wirelessly, and access iTunes and pictures through the cloud on the TV. Curious to see how continuity expands things.
