Need a Free Anti-Virus Site

I have Avast for my anti-virus - but it's expiring. Are there any free, long-term sites?

Avast has a free version. Recently I checked some ratings for free a/v softwares and Avast came in #1.

MSE is good, as Hulagirl mentioned, also but I guess you cannot use it with the new Win 8.x versions.

That's right. Windows 8 comes with Windows Defender factory installed. It replaces MSE (Microsoft's Security Essentials). I like AVG free edition. As with most/all free editions, there is a paid version. You need to really watch what you download.

My friend connected Avast a couple of weeks ago - but it now says that it will expire in 15 days. Should I pay for it or can I get it free. I have Windows XP. I'm computer-challenged

You can get Avast for free. You just register with your email address. You should find it in the settings menu in Avast.

I am using Avast. They company gives customers a year of free use. You just need to register for another year.

I believe AVG is free. However, I really don't recommend it. For about $30 a year, you can get up to three PC's on Norton 360 which I like a lot. I've tried almost EVERY anti-virus out there (I used to be a software product mgr before I retired to a new career in retirement.)

After endless trials, I ended up liking Norton far better. Yes, it is a yearly subscription, but it does a lot for the money (backup, antivirus, internet safety, scanning websites, installs, and tune up the PC.)

That is the MOST secure site to get ALL your free software. My friends that are security experts swear by it.

You will find toms of free software.

I use AVG free n the recommendation of my friends. I also have malewarebytes and superantispyware on my PC. These are the free versions and do not run real time. Once in a while I run them just to make sure my PC is clean.

I have AVG free and Malwarebytes. Not foolproof, but pretty good.
